I was imagining what would DnD look like if their was a fighting game based on it.Would it be better in 2d or 3d,played like Super Smash Bros,Dissidia,Samurai Showdown or Soul Calibur(A dwarf would hardly fit in a Dissidia-style game while a mage would be unfitting in a Soul Calibur-style game, for example.)?

I was also trying to imagine what would be the available characters.Would we include all classes and races?Would their be a"customise your character"option?Should the character level up and equip different items?Would it represent DnD well?

How would you make a game like that?

(Imagine if you absolutely had to make the game.I am not asking if you would like it or not,i want to know how would you make it so that it would please you precisely.)

Edit:You can add a story if you want,or even allow the player to choose their own paths, the stages can have breakable stuff scathered around and objects to hide behind. There are many possibilities here.Remember, the game is supposed to please you,if you think playing a minotaur ninja with lightsabers that is carried by carebears would be awesome,or simply would like to have Sarevok doing a back suplex on Drizzt Do Urden,it counts.I just want to know what would be your take on such a project.

Here are the characters that i would put:
-Dark knight
-Onna bugeisha
-Dwarf
-Elf
-Drow
-Orc
-Lich
-Minotaur

What would be your take? Moreover, what characters would you put?

I would start to panic because I don't know shit about making games but apparently I'm being forced to.

I don't think any kind of fighting game would represent D&D well. At all. But I guess that making a Street Fighter 4 clone of it wouldn't be too bad. Although all classes would be dwarf. And they would fight with bread. And wear dresses. And a top-hat.

With the occasional dance number?

On topic: sure, customize all classes, why not?

But wouldn't it need a story?

So all of the fighters would be Drunk?

I think we have a winner.

It's been done, actually. There was a D&D fighting game on the PS1, but I don't remember the name... I'll see if I can find it and report back here.

EDIT: It's called Iron & Blood: Warriors of Ravenloft and was not reviewed well, at least on IGN. I remember playing it a few times at a buddy's place and thought it was ok, but it probably hasn't aged well...

A table top pencil-and-paper Role Playing Game into a "fighting game"? Maybe if DnD was solely about thwacking monsters a'la Diablo, it'd work.

In my non-professional, casual player/DM view, though, the thrill that can be had in a good session is taken from the group camaraderie, the settings, and the crazy hijinks that your players can unleash upon your carefully constructed encounters and puzzles. Having a slug-fest version of DnD would beat the entire purpose of the game itself.

D and d does not translate to a fighting game at all. The best you could do is make some sort of system that really only uses the names from d and d, and pay wizards lots of money for their logo. And in my personal experience (d and d tactics on psp, the trial of ddo when it was p2p) direct translation from d and d to video game results in bad. If i had to make a game it would probably resemble final fantasy tactics the most. But i would really prefer a free online tabletop service with which to play actual d and d. because video games have a tendency to completely kill the roleplaying and creativity that makes it great.

I've been thinking of the characters that could be added, but if we include classes, races, humanoids, popular cliche characters and the various types of warriors throughout history, the number of fighters would be enormous.I wonder which possible characters would you take and which leave you indifferent.
