A Girl and a Cat Take A Walk in the Dark

[video=6624]
Arielle and Bast have finally headed out on their stroll through the forest.

I was quite taken by the extended gameplay trailer for A Walk in the Dark when I stumbled across [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/119367-A-Walk-in-the-Dark-Is-No-Walk-in-the-Park] it in August. It appeared to be almost certainly beyond my skills but I loved the aesthetic, and I like cats and forests, too. Would I be able to play the game with some degree of competence, or at least keep myself from going insane with rage every time I failed?

It's time to find out, as A Walk in the Dark is now available. A DRM-free version of the game can currently be purchased directly from developer Flying Turtle Software and the team is also trying to get it up on Steam Greenlight, which, if you are so inclined, you can vote for here [http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=92918945].

A Walk in the Dark is a "story-driven platformer" in which players become Bast, a cat in search of his master. She's been taken by a dark spirit of the forest, and it's his fault. Now he's alone, night is coming and he must race to her rescue in a world that's become strange, dark and dangerous. The Limbo vibe is obvious but given that Limbo is pretty awesome (or so I'm told; I still haven't played it), I don't think that's necessarily a bad thing.

More information about A Walk in the Dark, including purchase links for the game and the original soundtrack, can be found at a-walk-in-the-dark.com [http://a-walk-in-the-dark.com/].

Looks cute.... is there an easy mode?

I think I might be needing it.

Reminds of other 'trigger finger platforms that I love to play but have never beaten'.

I'd be more then willing to check it out, if just for the visuals.

It looks like a mixture between Limbo and Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet. Might have to give it a try.

Doesn't look all that exciting, to be honest. Everything showcased in the trailer has been done in other platformers before. Even the animation seems to be rather mediocre, both as far as the movement and the general art style go.

Limbo meets Super Meat Boy with a kitty?

I want it! So much want!

Would hate to see what happens if kitty touches one of those blades though 0___0.

My first thought exactly.

My second thought was: Awww! Kitty!

My third thought was: Wow. That gameplay looks neat. And brutal. Super Meat Boy brutal. And thus we returned to the first though.

my first thought is a cat would never do this, it would just sit there licking itself while it watched you be dragged away, at least thats what mine would do.

OT looks like a nice game.

It was nifty at first, but now the whole 'black silhouette' platformer seems to becoming more if a cover-up for 'we don't have good art direction and animation'.

I go for night time walks with my cat all the time...

I must play this game with my cat, just so he knows what he must do should I be kidnapped by evil.

Great news, I quite loved the trailer and already had the soundtrack, although I sense it will be way beyond my skills as well, I'm not much of a platformer :/

Don't forget the VVVVVV-styled gravity shifting that lets the cat run on the ceiling.
