A HUGE problem I have with something minor in Saint's Row: The Third

so, i'm playing and loving SR3, but there is one major issue i've had with the game...

have you noticed that when you're driving at top speed, your car seemingly has infinite gears?

listen to the engine, you'll hear the RPM's get higher, then drop back down, like the sounds you'd make as a kid pretending to drive a palindrome. but these sounds happen because you increase the RPM's to the point where you need to shift to the next gear. in a real car, at a constant maximum speed, once you were in your highest gear, the engine would only get to the high-pitched loud point and stay there, not keep dropping the R's.

it's annoying me so much, and i can't ignore it! i don't remember the other saints' rows' doing that.

anyways, thats all, so as for discussion,

what small, seemingly inconsequential things have you noticed in games that drive you nuts while people around you just don't seem to care.

(and let me get this out of the way before anyone tries it...) i used to have infinite gears, then i took an arrow to the transmission. there, done. you can't do that now.

Interesting. I just fired up SR2 to check. Did you know the cop cars only have three gears? True Story. The Attrazione apparently has four.

Anyway, meh, doesn't bother me--I avoid driving when possible. I prefer grabbing a chopper. ;)

The triforce.

I'm sorry but to me that symbol will always be the Hojo family crest.

I don't know why it annoys me but it does for some reason.

I honestly never noticed that.

No offense, but I'm kinda curious as to how many people did.
haha, i'm guessing not many. and really, i probably only noticed because i recently learned to drive stick, so these things are at the forefront of my mind when i drive now. even when i drive vehicles that shoot fire from a giant face.

the attrazione only has 4 huh? i hadn't noticed. that should be a 6 speed performance vehicle. as for the cop cars, i've been in the back of a few, and none i've seen have ever been stick, so that might be a little more forgivable. but even automatics have 4 gears.

i guess it bothers me because it feels lazy and easily fixable. "hey joe, make that car shut up when the sound plays 5 times in a row." "you got it bob!"

Yeah I noticed that. It's actually quite distracting at times. It's also kinda weird that if you turn cruise control on the engine makes no noise whatsoever :S

I just beat the game and I didn't even know the cars had gears, and if there were I only knew two: moving, and not moving.
I did love cruising around with the Vtol which is described by your character "It's like a helicopter that fucked a jet!"

I haven't played SR 3 but I can imagine that annoying me to no end.

One thing that annoys me about RAGE is the shotgun. The gun is pointed slightly upwards compared to the rest of the weapons, and it makes me rage. Also, the Authority MG looks like a tiny SMG in first person, but when other people use it, it's actually a huge assault rifle type thing. That makes me rage, as well. Come on id, you made (sort of) the FPS genre, but you can't even make your guns look right?

Heh. In the same situation, that might irk me, too.

I bet that conversation went more like "Hey Joe, make that car shut up when the sound plays five times in a row!"

"Shut the hell up, Bob, I've got 40 weeks of DLC to cut out of the game and arrange as though it's new content!"

"Fair enough."

I'ma have to try cruise control now. I've never had a reason before.

this is one that I did notice and doesn't irk me much, but the VTOLS will sometimes make the jet noise even when turned off. And often it will persist even when you're half the city away.

Once you have access to STAG vehicles why use anything else? ;)

I recently acquired the game Lost Odyssey for the Xbox 360.

One of the things that I find simultaneously hilarious and annoying is the fact that I noticed that some (if not all?) accessories actually show up on the in-game character models. The thing that happened was that at first I equipped the female character with red earrings. At the time I thought that was just totally part of her design. Then I changed it to the super straight-faced male character. Then it became something that was completely and hilariously out of place and it bothered me to the point where I couldn't take some scenes seriously because he looked so ridiculous. :p Although I suppose the commitment to making the accessories appear on the characters was a nice touch.

Also on a small side note I don't know if my eyes were playing tricks on me, but one of the more well-endowed characters (the Queen, I mean who else would be well-endowed) had a top that basically revealed the middle of her chest and her breasts seemed a bit veiny. I thought that was a strange level of detail. o-o :3

I definitely noticed that and it annoyed me about as much as you. Not really sure why the developers didn't catch it or whatever. Seems really obvious to me.

Edit: I can't actually think of anything annoying other than that right now.

Ya with games it's all sort of idiosyncrasies where you just have to squint and tune them out, missing or incorrect sounds, twitchy physics, disappearing objects, intersecting geometry, wooden faces, repeating lines,...

And that is a fairly accurate description of Skyrim.

I just figure listening to, "VRRRRRRRRRM-VrrrrrrRRRRRRRM" is a lot less annoying than having to listen to a constant drone, "RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR."

I hit curise control and then I don't hear the engine at all. The no max gear does get to me to though.
