A Link to the Past 2 Will "Shock" Fans

The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past 2 will feature Light and Dark worlds and run at 60FPS while in 3D.

Among the ranks of the Zelda series you'll find few titles as well loved as A Link to the Past. <a href=http://www.cinemablend.com/games/Legend-Zelda-Link-Past-2-Announced-3DS-54730.html>Nintendo's announcement, in turn, that it had a direct sequel to the classic in the works was both a surprising and welcome development for fans of the original. Now, Nintendo has revealed new details concerning A Link the Past 2's story, gameplay and technical aspects that should excite already eager gamers.

"This new title will feature lots of things that are new to the series; right at the start of the game, there's a big surprise that will shock players," said series producer, Eiji Aonuma. "Rather than forcing elements of the original story into this one, we've instead focused on bringing back the characters, so you can see what happened to them after the events of the first game." The game will also be revisiting the two world mechanic of the original, forcing players to switch between Light and Dark planes of existence to complete the game. "Link's [new] ability to become a painting will be related to the that," said Aonuma.

On a technical level, A Link to the Past 2 will also be pushing the 3DS' forward. The game is being designed to run at 60FPS, even with the 3D turned on. "All the 3D games up till now have run at 30FPS," said Aonuma. While he confirmed that 3D would still be very much optional and not required to complete any of the game's puzzles, Aonuma stressed that a 60FPS running speed would add up to a much smoother 3D experience.

Why does the FPS matter so much to people?

The eye can only see about 25 different pictures per second anyway.

You've done it now, it's too late to turn back >.>. Prepare for zealous quotes and maybe even a flame-war on the whole 60 FPS shtick.

But to say that the eye can only see about 25 different pictures per second is wrong, just plain wrong. If that was the case how an I see the diference between 30 FPS and 60 FPS?

Either way I really doubt Nintendo will ever "shock" anyone considering how safe they play with their games. The only shock they ever gave was Metroid Other M

The only way a Zelda game could shock me is a 'pick your character' screen popping up.

didn't the dark world get destroyed in that timeline when Link got the triforce and wished for all of Ganon's evil to be undone?

especially since the whole POINT of the sacred realm is that it reflects the heart of the one who holds the triforce, so either the triforce is going to be nabbed at the start (so either girahim (we have no idea where he is) vaati (in the four sword) or a new villain(not ganon, he's dead until just before link's awakening)), or link turns evil (unlikely, since the whole point of him being a bunny in the dark world was to emphasize how purehearted he is, and he's the same link as in OoS/OoA (where he's the triforce's personal errand boy) and LA (where he leaves to go and find a way of killing ganon for good after the oracle games))

so yes, well done nintendo, I'm shocked and interested as to how the place still exists after the events of LttP

(as for the 25FPS thing, isn't that the minimum FPS humans can see without the frames becoming noticable? the human eye doesn't work like a camera after all, it's recording things constantly, not making 25 snapshots every second)

A twist? Based on A Link to the Past?

Looks like we're finally going to find the end of the sentence "Link, Zelda is your..."

Lol no, I'm not biting, suffice it to say, you're wrong.

OT: I'm thinking of picking a 3DS anyway, whether I get this game is yet to be seen.

A light and dark world while being able to run at 60fps. Interesting, but ultimately not what I care about in a Zelda game.

I just want it to be as challenging and complicated as the first Link to the past, and not "nerfed" for wider appeal... Because if it's too easy, I will get bored immediately and beat it in an afternoon. I am so terrified Nintendo is going to blow this yet again -_-

Is the shocking thing that at the start of the game someone dyes Link's hair blonde?

Wait, if they say it is going to shock me, does that mean Ganon turned Zelda into a Vampire that we are going to have to behead and then restore back to life by heroically throwing ourselves into the dark world? o o;

Am I the only person who doesn't want this game?

Link to the Past was a complete experience and doesn't need a sequel.

A game on the 3DS will be in 3D and run smoothly.

It's a bit sad for the 3DS that this is noteworthy.

...only friend!

Captcha: "just friends" - this is fucking insane. I make a little harmless joke, as an afterthought...I swear the Escapist staff go through and individually choose a fitting Captcha depending on which post you quote, this is just too good.

Hehe most people can perceve the difference between 30 and 60fps, like for example I can see a clear difference between most console games at 30fps, and a good PC port of the same game at a steady 60. Some say they can notice frame rates up to about 120fps, but I'm less sure about that.

I'm already shocked by the fact that this game is even being made and not pleasantly either. A Link to the Past's ending didn't really leave room for a direct sequel, how the hell are they shoehorning this thing in? I cringe at the thought of how many retcons are going into this.

The "shocking twist:" when Link enters Dark World in "Art" form, he becomes a black-light painting!

People love to start flame wars over this stuff, but I don't see a point. Really, your eye is not limited to a number of pictures it can perceive in a given amount of time. That is a long running fallacy. Your eye does see a difference between smooth and not smooth. At 30 FPS games have a slight blur added to them to make it appear more smooth than it is. 30 FPS does not create a seamless moving image. 60 FPS is much closer to seamless and does not require any kind of additional blur to make it look that way. At a higher frame rate, your visuals can be crisper and clearer and more seamless. And that is the fact about frame rates.

The game is ugly as sin, not really a technical advancement when you sacrifice graphics for this...It looks ugly to me.
