A game on the 3DS will be in 3D and run smoothly.

It's a bit sad for the 3DS that this is noteworthy.

Captcha: "just friends" - this is fucking insane. I make a little harmless joke, as an afterthought...I swear the Escapist staff go through and individually choose a fitting Captcha depending on which post you quote, this is just too good.
Keep in mind one of the things that cod likes to brag about is running at 60 fps while games like bf3 only run at 30.

"Link's new ability to turn into a painting."

So...should I consider this a form of innovation or just a random idea that someone threw on the developing stage and they thought that they didn't have anything better in mind anyway?

Wow, running 3D at 60FPS is no easy feat on any system. This doesn't exactly make me want to go out and get a 3DS, but it's certainly nice to know that the developers are actually pushing the handheld's limits and squeezing all the power they can out of it.

I'm already shocked by the fact that this game is even being made and not pleasantly either. A Link to the Past's ending didn't really leave room for a direct sequel, how the hell are they shoehorning this thing in? I cringe at the thought of how many retcons are going into this.
you know, apart from the oracle series and LA ;P

there's a space of time between the end of LttP and OoS/OoA that Hyrule Historia calls "The Era of Light and Dark" where link was the triforce's errand boy (and it's the same link, not a different one), during his two final trials to save holodrum and labrynna, ganon gets brought back to life and he goes to look for a method of killing ganon for good, gets caught in a storm, and Link's Awakening happens.

don't you think it's odd how they released OoS/OoA, the two games that are direct sequels to LttP RIGHT before E3?
I'm guessing that the story will tie into what link did in that time and possibly have a couple of references to the oracles (it'd be interesting if we got to see onox and veran again, veran was such an interesting villain, she's second only to girahim in the amount of time she interacts with link directly)

I.. just can't feel myself getting excited for this. They make mention of finding out what happened to the characters after the end of the first game, but were there really any characters anyone cared about all that much (outside of Link and Zelda, of course)? Also, the whole turning into a painting mechanic feels to me like yet another twist on gameplay that Nintendo could have based an entirely new IP but instead just shoehorned into an existing franchise.

Anyway, given a recent episode of a television show, the whole "shocking" part of the game has me picturing Link and Zelda as part of a Red Wedding scenario.

Finally, the Link Nip Slip will return!

...What?

A light and dark world while being able to run at 60fps. Interesting, but ultimately not what I care about in a Zelda game.
Yeah, when I'm looking for a Zelda game, my first thought isn't "But will they finally fix that shitty framerate that's been sucking up the franchise?"

The game is ugly as sin, not really a technical advancement when you sacrifice graphics for this...It looks ugly to me.
What about it exactly looks ugly as sin? I'd say it's a pretty faithful representation of the originals art style in 3D and looks pretty good as a result.

I guess it be shocking if at the begining of the game its revealed that the Link I'll be playing as is in fact the son of the previous Link who you can go visit and meet your mom

So how, exactly, did Nintendo forget about Link's Awakening?
Just because there was one game set after LttP already they can't make another? Hell, aside from Link's Awakening featuring the same Link they weren't really connected at all.

Having a 3DS might be paying off soon?! That's a huge surprise to me already! I only have 2-3 games for it, but damn, I'm shocked, truly, Nintendo has made a power play here!

Why does the FPS matter so much to people?

The eye can only see about 25 different pictures per second anyway.
That's not true. That's based entirely on tests that show that if you insert a single black frame into a video sequence, people can only percieve this consciously up to a framerate of about 30 fps. (1 black frame in 30)

But... That doesn't mean you have no awareness at all of the effects of higher framerates;

For that matter, in a game, the reaction speed of the game's controls are tied directly to the framerate. (so, the lower the framerate, the slower the game's inputs will respond - which is important in games with very fast action.)

You could also make an argument based on Nyquist sampling theorem. - This is a very commonly known thing in various forms of engineering, but basically, if you are trying to create a digital sample of an analog signal, it states that at the very minimum, you need to sample at twice the speed of the signal you're trying to capture. (and probably at 5-10 times that speed if you want to do it reliably.)

Applying that logic to vision, you'd quickly realise that to be able to clearly identify a single frame out of 30 reliably every time, your vision would actually have to be capturing information at 60 fps or more... Or perhaps even as much as 150-300 fps.

On top of all this, we're talking about the 3ds here...
And there is plenty of anecdotal evidence to show that when using a 3d effect, low framerates contribute quite heavily to the likelyhood of someone getting eyestrain, nausea, or other negative effects when the framerates are low.

So... No, saying it won't make a difference is missing quite a few subtleties that are related to things beyond the mere question of whether you can clearly identify each individual frame while looking at it...

hooray...Christmas has come early.
You made me laugh, of course as I have Half in the Bag on to boot.

OT: I'm not sure this is something note worthy of the series, it's not like the original had a poor framerate and you're coming out to say "Hey we fixed up Zelda for this release!".

It's just this awkward note like they have nothing else to boast about this title. It's usually not a good sign when your news to sites is "it plays at an expected framerate" really the game from what they've shown looks really interesting but ...strange thing to come out and boast about though.

No... that's Konami's trick. Maybe we travel to the Mushroom kingdom.

Calling it, the big shock will be Zelda is dead at the start of the game but as you go through the game you discover that she is not really dead but has just been in hiding.

Either way a new handheld Zelda game is always interesting.
