ok, so i realize this thread may incur the wrath of the moderators but i feel i must speak my piece. recently on the escapist we were "treated" to a show called game dogs about several dogs who worked for an electronics company and were told to write video games.....OK so the idea right there sounds odd but here's the point im getting too. the jokes, writing, and ideas of the show were really really good...kinda reminded me of the show Code Monkeys almost.....but why did they have to be dogs? really if i have to say the shows weakness was the fact that all the characters were dogs and had to rely on a bunch of really weak puns. point being if this show was about human characters working for an electronics company and were then ordered to start writing games....well that could actually be pretty good....as it stands it just feels weak.

Bad dog puns? What about Booth *****? That was a nice pun.

There was an article explaining why they were dogs. You'll have to search for it.

I think Game Dogs still has potential. It just needs to work on build-ups and punchlines.

i don't watch Game Dogs myself (i always think of it as CAD for furries).

but my view of why they are dogs is because they wanted the show to be original, i mean, there are probably a lot of shows about people making games, but there are not a lot when it comes to dogs doing games, therefore making original.

So the man doesn't have perfect grammar, at least it's eligible.

Could you perhaps link that? I'd like to read it.

Yet we ALL know spongebob would have been better if he was human... Series would have been much shorter. "Who's floating dead carcass be polluting the sea! Bloaty-bob deadpants!"

As for the OP, if you check out the comments section of the first.. 4 maybe 5 episodes, you'll find this argument repeated several times. Several people have called the quick dog pun scenario... Luckily the show ended up being at least half decent. Perhaps things shall improve with season 2.

So Disney failed when they created Micky Mouse, Donald and all the other classic characters?

Making a character fuzzy and cute-looking makes it more likeable.
... Imagine if the dog only wearing scarf dident have all that fur do cover :p

Ahh I noticed the connection to the g4 show Code Monkeys too. But yes, the writing was a little more crisp in that. Actual game humor, not dog puns. BUT the one thing that having a dog as the main character is that allows us a further extension of our disbelief. So a dog can do things we could say "No human could possably do that" or "no he would get his ass fired if he..." see? So it adds this connection for even more jokes that ripping off Office space/dilbert/ code monkeys won't allow. Hmm think of it this way, Code monkeys was all 8 bit, and Game Dogs are all anthropomorphic dogs.

Maybe he was omitting a bunch of words.

OT: I kind of like the dogs, wouldn't have the same charm as humans.

As far as I know, the series used dogs simply because Dogs are a lot simpler to draw then Humans. They also tend to be different. How many shows or movies can you name that are sitcoms about humans working at developing studio?

Done counting? How many shows can you name feature talking dogs in that same position? It's different. If we wanted to watch a bunch of Humans playing dungeon and Dragons or developing games, then we could easily find them in reality.

I find the show charming and having some funny moments at times actually it'd be boring with human characters.

Criticizing someone's grammar whilst forgetting an apostrophe doesn't make up for shit grammar either.

OT: I think that the characters are dogs because it allowed the show to transcend the real world of programming. This gives the writers some creative license to do things that wouldn't normally be possible, as well as set the show up for not only bad dog puns, but also applying dog-like behaviors to actual scenarios, i.e. a character chasing their tail is a waste of time, just as listening to upper-management can be a waste of time (sometimes). I never got into the show cause it never tickled my funny bone, but hey, to each their own. Obviously, if they're gonna dedicate the resources for a second season, someone liked it.

It wasn't an article, it was just a post [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/6.166654-Meet-the-Game-Dogs-Chet-and-Roger?page=3#4474638] Archon made in the comments section of one of those Meet the Game Dogs articles.

The two serious points out of that list were that dogs are easy to draw and that the show was meant to have an early eighties style to it. As far as I can tell, The Escapist hasn't gone to the dogs yet.

Beat me to it. I think the phrase 'Do as I say, not as I do' has some relevance here.

I really think they should stop doing so many dog puns(a few every now and then are nice, though) and actually get the dogs to do something.

Maybe then it'll be better.

Its amazing how much two opinions can differ. If you ask me about the only good thing about this series is the fact that the characters are all dogs. At least makes them comparably attractive, ehm, cute. As to the jokes, if you can call them that, they never really manage to be funny. Not even funny enough for some mild chuckling. But the dialogs are good, the animation is decent and the voice work is excellent. So yeah ill keep on watching it.
