about the 2 different dubbings of the anime K-on...

I happened to stumble across an interesting slice of life/comedy anime called K-on and thought that(despite a few hiccups here and there)it's quite well done.. but about the dubbing.. the first 7 episodes i watched were apparently dubbed by a company called Animax and the voices all worked pretty well for the characters..they all feel authentic, like real highschool girls did the voices.. but after that episode the next one i watched(episode 8) had entirely different voice actresses and they aren't as good as the original actresses chosen for the anime...

Apparently these are a redone dub for the official US release and use fairly well known voice actresses that are all grown ups doing young teen voices (like most anime).. problem is, none of them fit the characters very well with Stephanie Sheh being the worst offender.. she's passable as Orihime on Bleach and Hinata on Naruto/Naruto Shippuden.. but on K-on her voice doesn't fit the character of Yui at all.. andshe seems to be used way too much these days adn she uses the same tone of voice for all her roles making them indistinguishable from one and other.

The other actress are ok (i guess) but none of them are as good as the ones on the animax dub.. problems is, finding the original animax dubbed episode on line is very difficult and finding the dvds are even harder.

For those who've seen the anime and have heard both the original Animax dub and the newer US dub which do you think is better?

I haven't actually seen the dubs yet, I didn't know they'd come out.

I heard Cristina Vee was supposed to voice Mio, was she in the Animax or the other one?

I don't know why they'd switch out actors halfway through... That's kind of worrying.

Oh... the Bang Zoom dub, by far.

I thought the Animax dub was awful. It sounded like it was recorded in a trash can, and all the voices sound the same. Then again, that's most Animax dubs. The acting is slightly better than some, though, but still not very good.

I like the Bang Zoom dub a lot. I disagree about Stephanie Sheh's voice. I thought she fit the character perfectly. She sounds like what I expected Yui to sound like in English. Same with the other characters.

She's in the Bang Zoom dub.

And they didn't switch out. It's different regions. Animax Asia is Southeast Asia. Bang Zoom is the official U.S. dub.

I can find absolutely no evidence that there were ever two dub versions of K-On!

Right found evidence that these 2 dubs existed, the Animax one seems have to have been decried as the spawn of satan with a tin can microphone.

Given that I can't find any animax dubs versions, i'm just going to say that the Bandi dub is really damn good and as far as i'm concerned all the VAs did a great job.

Problem is you now have an idea in your mind about how they should sound, based on what you've already seen.

I'm going to look for these animax one to see how different they are.

OH GOOD GOD I JUST FOUND THE ANIMAX DUB, WTF ARE YOU SMOKING

Sound is tinny, voices are badly synced, literally that's one of the worst dubs i've ever heard.

For anyone with speakers that cost more than 20 pence to make, WATCH THE NEWER DUB

This is one of the reasons i go for subs over dubs. K-On! is too good to ruin with half assed replacement voices.

Never seen it before but I did just look up a clip and that is bad, even by anime dub standards. But I have never watched a dub that I have liked, they all just sound so bad.

Despite its dip in quality in the last few years and despite having the biggest douche bag in manga/anime history in it I still enjoy Naruto and still watch the anime, hell seeing the fights in anime form has improved the war arc for me, but the english voice acting is just SO bad.

At least games do a little better when it comes to Japanese games.

I haven't heard the dubs, any of them, but agree with this. K-On is a very enjoyable and watchable series and I really can't imagine watching it in dub form, especially given the music. Great series.

Despite hearing the Animax dub before the Bang Zoom dub, which back then I didn't even want to hear either dubs because of how I've gotten used to watching it subbed, I fucking love the Bang Zoom dub! The VAs in that dub did a WAY beter job than the other VAs to the point that I can watch K-On either subbed or dubbed the same way I can watch most slice-of-life anime series with, basically, an all-girl ensemble cast...

Ah Alright. I'm a big fan of Vee's so I'll probably watch the Bang Zoom dub. Have they done season 2 as well or is it just season 1 for now?

They've dubbed both Season 2 and the movie.
