Activision Deal: Buy Guitar Hero 5, Get GH: Van Halen Free

Guitar Hero: Van Halen [http://www.activision.com] absolutely free.

There are those who think that the air might be going out [http://www.thatvideogameblog.com/2009/07/22/music-game-money-train-starts-slowing-down/] of the music game balloon, so Activision has decided to pump it up with an offer that fans of the genre will find awfully hard to refuse. Pre-order Guitar Hero 5, or buy one of the specially-marked copies of the game after it hits the shelves on September 1, and get a mail-in coupon for a copy of Guitar Hero: Van Halen at no charge and, if you get to it quickly enough, long before it hits the stores in late December.

I can't decide if this seriously undervalues Guitar Hero: Van Halen (although the track list is, in my ever-so-humble opinion, pretty far from compelling) or if Activision is honestly concerned that Guitar Hero 5 may stumble out of the gate. Whatever the case, it's a deal that anyone considering the purchase of either game would be crazy to pass up: guitarhero.com/vanhalengameoffer [http://www.gamestop.com/Catalog/ProductDetails.aspx?product_id=74876].

So wait, you pay double the price for CoD Modern Warfare 2, so they can give 2 games for the price of one with another franchise?

Just what the hell is going on over at Activision?

I'm not complaining here, because no matter what way you look at it, 2 games for the price of one is a sweet deal. But this still doesn't make much sense

I suppose this means Activision is losing faith in the series? What, with all the Guitar Hero: [insert band name] coming out (and out already), it's not hard to imagine they would need incentive to sell upcoming pieces in the franchise...

...oh well. A free game is a free game, but I'm satisfied with my precious little Rock Band 2.

Wow, there are already "buy one, get one free" deals for Guitar Hero games??? Jesus Christ! It's just a matter of time before we see a "four disc: limited edition" deal for Guitar Hero.

Activision sure knows how to milk a franchise.

I'm going to guess this is their tacit admission that GH:Van Halen is not something that many people would be willing to pay for. The amount of Van Halen songs that I'd ever want to see in a music game could easily be represented by a DLC set.

Okay, now I am getting Guitar Hero:5. Great deal.

Also, that looks very much like Rock Band with 4 Guitars. Oh originality.
Actually, what they did is allow multiple people play the game in "party mode" with whatever combination of instruments they want. You can have four singers, drummers, guitarists - or any combination - all at the same time.

It's really not a bad idea - it would definitely make things a little smoother at parties. I wouldn't mind seeing Rock Band add a similar feature in as well.

A good deal, but I'm slightly confused as to why this is being done. Odds are that the number of copies they'll be giving away for free are extremely limited or something, because it has "or while supplies last" as an addendum to the deal.

I wonder if the entire Van Halen III album will be released as additional DLC.

i was about to say, hmm not bad 2 games for one...

then i remebered they always charge an ungodly amount for a disk which contains a few songs and the buttons to press with them

with this 2 for 1 deal your probably only giving double what they're worht to the evil that is activision
