Activision Getting "Little to No Compensation" In Brutal Legend Deal

With how public this case was, Activision lost just as much face as they would've had they lost the case in open court. Activision has now probably made a lot of enemies amongst gamers and with developers, especially EA.

Excellent news. It's almost a pity Activision didn't decide to take it to court; I would have enjoyed watching them lose and be humiliated. Oh well, we can't have everything, I guess. At least we will still get Brutal Legend, and Activision won't get anything out of it. And they've unquestionably suffered some humiliation by the very fact that they've decided to settle out of court: it shows that they know they can't win.

The same source says the agreement took place after the presiding judge expressed the sentiment that it would be unlikely for him to side with Activision [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/93544-Judge-Will-Likely-Deny-Activisions-Brutal-Legend-Delay] in the matter, which was probably a huge factor in the settlement.
i'm pretty sure this is the only reason they settled, they were going to lose the case and have to pay tons of money and the game would still be released.

i'm definitely glad to celebrate Rocktober while drinking some beer during the now dubbed Rocktoberfest

I love these news updates only because I get to see a new screenshot of Brutal Legend each time.

Oh and take that Activision. Ha.

You gotta love it when something like this happens. It makes me want to play Brutal Legend even more, in fact.

And the SS Activison suffers a direct blow to the gun deck, stopping it from halting the frigate Rockotber

Hmm, far too vague and speculative for my liking. 'little' could mean kids change to Activision but a lot more to Brutal legend, since it's them they were sueing, not EA.

Hopefully the final boss in Brutal Legend will be a giant, half satan half Bobby Kotick, who suppresses the Metal World with his evil frivolous lawsuits.

You mean October release.
Did you feel the wind in your hair as that flew over your head?

Good to hear! Nice to see this finally out of one entanglement. Now we just have to hope it doesn't get delayed next month.
Nah, that one didn't fly over my head. It landed several feet ahead and bounced to my feet, where I look down upon it with scorn.

People seem to be giving Activision the hate that EA had been getting, but to be honest the hate is undeserved. Activision is a business, and they exist to sell product: the fact that their product is games is a bonus. They don't deserve to be treated like the spawn of Satan for attempting to make some extra money.

Granted, this whole Brutal Legend debacle should never have even started, but whatever. It's over now, the good guys won.

There was an article on Activision's tactics a week or two ago. The comments are worth a read.

Summed up to a few words: It's all right to want to make money, but there are some things that you just don't do. EA did it with DRM, and Activision did this, among other cases like the whole Ghostbusters fiasco.

Well, if Activision is the new EA, they'll have a sudden surge in niceness levels in about a month or two that will get people to stop complaining about them... and another company will start getting hated on to compensate.

I'm not saying that all of the unpleasant feelings toward Activision are undeserved, but it seems people just like jumping on the hate bandwagon these days: it's like hating on things is the new black.

Nice onji [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Onji], though I get the feeling it wasn't deliberate.
