Irony is Strong in this thread.

Whiny little children crying that CoD Players have no lives and are mindless sheep, when in fact they are having fun and everyone here is wasting their time bitching about other people.

What I want to know is this:

Why the hell does it matter to ANY of you? Let the CoD players spend their money. Does it truly matter at all?
Well, lets see, if this does successfully, much their ridiculous $15 map packs did, it will become industry standard much like those stupid, bullshit $15 map packs did.

You're too busy engrossing yourself in the hate to actually look at what's happening. You want the mindless hate, you need it, you thrive on it, because it means you can say that's the only reason people don't like it, is they hate CoD. It makes it so you have an easy out in any discussion about it. "YOU JUST HATE COD LIKE THE REST OF THEM."

No. I loved CoD. It was a great series. Then Activision saw it and decided to milk the shit out of it, and it's popular enough and mainstream enough to where it can set trends the rest of the industry will follow.

If some shitstain developer/publisher tried to pull something like this, everyone and their mom would lose their damn mind and call foul. Because CoD has this following, there are people defending it.

the opportunity to enter tournaments and compete for real-world prizes and to watch "pro-commentated match reports and strategy videos."
You mean pro-commentated matches that this little free to play game called League of Legends streams for free quite frequently?

And do you mean strategy videos just like the champion spotlights the very same game puts out for every new champ and has begun to do retroactively for old champs?

Again, this is a completely free to play game, where the only thing they make you spend real world money on is cosmetic changes. Everything else can or must be bought with in game currency you have to earn.

So tell me, what is this service providing us? The chance to beta test their maps for them? Just like beta tests you can do for free for any other game?

The chance to enter tourneys? Just like any other game will let you if you have enough skill?

B/c you get all the DLC free forver (and they even said Elites get multiple DLC a month so it pays for it self.
getting DLC that should already be free for free is such a good deal guys omg I'm going to go sign up right now
Stop with the sarcasm. Plus, dlc for the longest time hasn't been free. Very few games give out free dlc.
If they're putting out that many maps per month, the maps are already done and they're just withholding them from the game, simply for your money.

Congrats, you want to vote with your wallet and you're voting for this bullshit.

Whoever the hell came up with that logo needs to be punched in the stomach along with all those who thought it was a good idea... Seriously, it looks horrible.

OT: If CoD hasn't made me care up until this point i doubt it's ever gonna happen.

Not even if they throw in a couple extra map packs, a new skin for my character, a machete instead of a knife, or a florescent pink helicopter to drop the air strikes... for only an extra fee of 50$!

Whoop-de-fuckin'-do.

In all seriousness i think they should be ashamed of the way they treat their customers. It's overpriced. We all see it, but i'll bet a lot of people are gonna buy it anyways 'cause they don't see it. Activision knows this and i think that's a great example of marketing evil.

I never said I was buying Elite. But not all the maps are done. Not even close. When MW3 was leaked, there was 20 maps. But in the game there is only 16. Now that does mean there is 4 maps which most likely (not always) going to shipped as DLC. But that means there is over 16 maps (since dlc is 5 maps) that haven't even been made.

Also the fact that not all the DLC they said is even maps, some of it is other stuff such as more spec ops missions, and game modes.

So basically, EA and Activision are having a contest to see who can be the biggest idiot to cater to some 12 year old who thinks they know more about guns than Colt?
I have no problem with that. It's aimed at the stupids, primarily.

Wow... This... Wow... I love how people sterotype COD fans on this forum. They call the fans idiots but the people calling them that are acting like bigger idiots.

It's more childish to start sterotyping people, and at the same time thinking your superior.

i love how you people are going "OMG 31 POUNDS for a year" Yet for a full year sub to WoW is around 5 pound a month which = 50 POUNDS....
I think you'll find that's £60.00, there are 12 months in the year the last I checked.

First of all: Calm down.
I'm ice cold. Always am when posting. Helps perspective.
2. Everyone gives out for free..? What? Last time I checked almost all DLC, besdies Valve, isn't free.
Most of it is on the PC. That's why we quite like it.
Also I am not sure it's all the COD's (I know you get Black Ops free) but I think everything up from BLOPs for free but I can't confirm this.
It's not, is it though? It even says MW3 only.
3. So you pay $110 for a year... Thats about $10 less then buying two games.
First mistake. Two AAA games. Anything else...much cheaper.
So a person who only plays COD, will get there money's worth.
That's an atrocious argument. How do you define money's worth to someone with only one game? How many people do you know who ONLY play CoD?
Since they get all the DLC free
So the DLC quality is worthless now? You're getting it whether it's any good or not? You remember the furor about other map packs? How only a few are actually useful?
3. Those are MMO's of the F2P genre, completely different to this. None that you mentioned are a FPS. I get what you're trying to say, but it doesn't really work.
Ok then; Global Agenda, Tribes, Unreal Tournament, Killing Floor, TF2...That's still less than your money.
4. Yahtzee's reviews for the most part are for fun, not really a review.
I'll let you defend that one.
5. A group for Spawn Campers? They already do that on forums I bet so no difference where it is.
Yeah, why bother to make a map fair and balanced when all the people who pay it get to know where all the best spots are - so they can zoom to the top of the TOTALLY FAIR table.
6. You don't need to buy it. Last time I checked, you can buy MW3, never buy the DLC or Elite and can still perfectly enjoy the game.
But if people want all the extras, they can buy them all, no matter how much they're worth.

And you can also enjoy WoW without the Burning Crusade or Wrath of the Lich King.

But not if you want to actually play it seriously.

I'll say again:
[HEADING=3]You're specifically defending the idea that it's perfectly acceptable to charge players based on their need, rather than the quality of your game?[/HEADING]

Yes or No?

If Yes, then I'll say no more. You've made your choice.

If No, then you're defending the prices based on it's cheaper to buy everything up front.

Mathematically, you're still on shaky ground because of interest. Economically, you've just given Activision free reign to sell you half a game for a full game's price.

And @Rednog, "Seriously"? Opinions are open, but charging for a service that could be atrocious is the same day 1 DLC that crippled Portal 2. It's hardly a new call.

It's more that DLC is a wonderful way to control the flow of game content users get, so A they don't just rent, and B they Don't hop ship to a different game, or they come back and play their game.

Anyone who willingly supports asshole tactics to extort money out of things people sort of would pay for, isn't helping anyone. I "Could" pay to enjoy ketchup with my fries at a burger joint, does that mean they should start charging me 4 bucks for a dish of ketchup, fuck to the hell no.

Hell it should be a free fanservice job to keep people playing, but they would rather charge you 4800 ms, or 70+ bucks for 20 maps. Go ahead defend them, I have no Idea why you would want someone to just charge you money. Feel the sudden urge to comment to my post, pay me 20$, you don't have to, but if you have the inkling to be read by me, Pay up. I'll restate, but you do not have to if you don't want.

Hell I'm still lawling because black ops derped the hell up one night and gave me 1.3 billion points.

Irony. It bites back.
Ironic? No. Let's see, half of the people in this thread said that people who buy this are idiots. And yet, the majority of Elite is absoulutely free, and by free its on par with BattleLog and Bungie.Net.

So no, it's not ironic. It's fucking fact on this forum.

Many DLC on PC is free.

Elite works for Blops. But maybe the DLC is only for MW3+ which is where Elite is actually going to start from so it doesn't really matter.

3. So you pay $110 for a year... Thats about $10 less then buying two games.
First mistake. Two AAA games. Anything else...much cheaper.
Who says they want to play those cheaper games? I could not get Dark Souls for $60 and buy a bunch of cheaper games. But do I want to? Hell no.

So a person who only plays COD, will get there money's worth.
That's an atrocious argument. How do you define money's worth to someone with only one game? How many people do you know who ONLY play CoD?
I don't personally, but the thing is. That people who don't only play COD, at lot of them are going to put hundreds and hundreds of hours into it. Thus making it worth there money.

Since they get all the DLC free
So the DLC quality is worthless now? You're getting it whether it's any good or not? You remember the furor about other map packs? How only a few are actually useful?
What? This makes no fucking sense... You buy Elite not just for the DLC, but for EXTRA features. Also what the fuck does quality even matter in this arguemet?

3. Those are MMO's of the F2P genre, completely different to this. None that you mentioned are a FPS. I get what you're trying to say, but it doesn't really work.
Ok then; Global Agenda, Tribes, Unreal Tournament, Killing Floor, TF2...That's still less than your money.
Problem with this is that you ASSUME as if fact that they will want to play them. Yes you can play them for cheaper, but NOT EVERYONE will want to play them. You don't seem to understand this. Some people like COD, I know that is hard for lots of you to understand, but people find fun in COD.

*Face palm* Now this is just getting silly. You get to see the overhead of the maps ANYWAY. Plus there is also many other ways in almost ALL FPS to see where the best spots. Make a private match and go around the map.

6. You don't need to buy it. Last time I checked, you can buy MW3, never buy the DLC or Elite and can still perfectly enjoy the game.[/quote]
But if people want all the extras, they can buy them all, no matter how much they're worth.

And you can also enjoy WoW without the Burning Crusade or Wrath of the Lich King.

But not if you want to actually play it seriously.[/quote]

The whole WoW part is competely pointless since that's not a SERVICE but expansion packs. A whole different thing.

Also that's the whole fucking point of EXTRAs.

Plus you can most likely still play serious since there is many FREE services.

I'll say again:
[HEADING=3]You're specifically defending the idea that it's perfectly acceptable to charge players based on their need, rather than the quality of your game?[/HEADING]

You've just made my entire point.

Quality is everything. That's what you're paying premium for.

If you're just paying a shitload up front without knowing what's in it, then you're just like the lady who bought the wooden iPad. Take a damn look inside the box first.

Go back and actually check how many people on this "fucking forum" actually called people idiots for buying this. It's way less than half. They just said they didn't want to buy it, and they knew a lot of people that would.

I'm afraid the person most upset by this is you. And you're willing to pay the money.

$50 for Elite + $60 for the game (on consoles) + $60 for map packs + $60 for XBL (if applicable)

= $230 per year / 12 months = about $19 a month

And you know it's only a matter of time before Elite becomes mandatory to play the game at all.

The more "services" which cost money they tack on, the less appealing gaming looks to me.
These gaming companies apparently don't make money unless they charge for server usage, yet they keep taking away LAN support.
Therefore, I am forced to use a service I don't want to use or pay for just to have multiplayer capabilities.

No wonder I haven't purchased or played a game in almost 2 years.

...Also, its $50 a year. Don't people on Xbox Live already pay $50 a year to use that? You're doubling your online gaming subscription costs for ONE game. Another thing that comes to mind is the CoD release schedule. They release one CoD a year, so if you're paying the $50 a year for Elite too, you're basically buying TWO CoD games a year. It just seems like a scam to charge twice the amount for a single game.
Pretty much. It costs me £39.99 of one of your Earth currencies for XBL for a year, a quick conversion shows COD Elite as being slightly under £10.00 shy of that price for the year too.

Granted the hardcore COD fans with the money to burn will doubtlessly stump up for it and really, what else are the bods at Activision hoping for?

No that's 60 pounds. There are 12 months in a year, deary.

World of Warcraft is an actual GAME. You're paying the price of a game and a half for a year's subscription, and if you can't finish the game's content or it doesn't get boring to you for long enough that you need to spend another year on it then that shows how good it is. For Call of Duty, you're paying for a full price game (£40), the Xbox Live subscription (£40), this subscription (£31), and all of the DLC packs (around £40). Now tell me what is better value?
