Why does this not surprise me at all? Is it just me or do game publishers get caught for sleazy practices more often than others in the entertainment industry?
Well, except for Charlie Sheen and possibly Tom Cruise. Does Scientology count? >.>

Its like Activision and EA are constantly in competition for worlds worst game company. oh sure EA won this year but with stuff like the Activision is once again a contender.

Goddammit Activision! You guys were doing so well, just staying quiet and letting EA rake up all the asshole points for this year. I was starting to forget about all the shit you've pulled, but now this, what the hell?

I'm not usually big on activism and boycotts, as I prefer to just have fun playing games, accepting that all publishers are not so secretly evil to a relatively equal degree; but you've gone too far this time Activision. Too. Fucking. Far.

:p You don't understand, Blizzard/Activision is doing it's best to make sure that EA doesn't outdo them in the "Who Can Look Like A Worse Company" contest. Blizzard's doing it's part with all the BS around the Diablo 3 release, and Activision is doing its part with all this "Infinity Ward rightfully kicked us in the nuts so we want payback!"

:p Frankly this is a 2-prong assault that I'm not sure EA can top.

They are striking while EA is still in the midst of cleaning up some of its other mistakes. That whole Warhammer tank plagiarism thing wasn't too long ago.

Takin lessons from Rupert Murdoch, eh Activision?
No kidding, that is CRAZY illegal. Now I'm convinced that Kotick is bonkers and needs to be fired from Activision. The man is nothing but poisonous.

It's not exactly "hacking" when you have to stage a fake fire drill and fumigation to simply walk up to their workstations and browse through all their personal information. I mean, at no point are you actually trying to crack their passwords or hack into their email, you're just physically pushing them away from their desk so you can look at their info...

I like to imagine that they originally planned to "hack", but when they realized nobody actually had that skill, they chose the less graceful plan of shutting the entire building down so they can get two employees out of the way for five minutes.
I thought that part was hilarious. I pictured these guys as evil professionals with the whole "don't worry about the repercussions of your actions" until I read the plan was to stage a fire drill and copy the guy's information.

Imagine if the guy locked his computer before leaving :p

(Reads story.) Shouldn't that apostrophe be one more letter to the right? More than one employee was the target.

As to the content of the story, these guys are both unethical AND morons. Either the devices were theirs and they could just take 'em and copy the hard drives at their leisure, or they were the personal possessions of the employees in question brought in under BYOD policy, which I somehow doubt said "Oh, and we reserve the right to take your personal stuff and use it against you."

I JUST watched the Breaking Bad episode where they tried to call a police operation "Operation Icebreaker" but they couldn't agree on whether it reminded people of gum more than boats, so they scrapped the name. So, when I read this article I lol'd.

OT: Why do people buy from Activision and Blizzard again?
Because unfortunately they publish this...

Luckily that's all they have control of on this game, Highmoon and Hasbro have the helm.

I bet someone's regretting voting EA as the shittiest company ever now.

Know what, I think they publicized this on purpose because they are jealous that EA beat them at something. Even if that something is being the biggest asshole.

I'm shocked and offended by this news that Activision got caught doing... wait no, not that emotion, I'm pretty damn pissed. That's the right one.

As for grilling, I'd probably go with something that sounds weirder, like "Operation Critical Supplies"

That's hacking as much as it would hiring someone to rob them in the parking lot and take their laptops.

I'm struggling to understand what sort of blow to the head it would take for this to be considered a rational decision. The only thing coming to mind is anvil dropped from on top of a cliff.
