...how much do you do side mission or do you try to beat the game on higher difficulty? For me, as I am playing a new game, I'm always thinking about doing all the side missions after I have finished the main story or try a higher difficulty. But after finishing the game I get bored and just can't play it anymore... I might try to play couple of times, but without main story to follow there just isn't anything for me anymore. And it's ANNOYING!

Examples:
I finished Sequence(indie game which combines RPG elements with rythm games. Loved it! I highly recommend.) and I was thinking the whole time I will replay it on higher difficulty, but no... I just can't play it anymore.
Torchlight. I finished it with just one character and now I can't even get another character through the game. It just got boring all the sudden... o.0

And there is many more.. And now I don't really have any games to play anymore. Well I guess I need to buy some new ones : D

So, does anyone else have same kind of experiences?

The first time I play it I tend to blast through the story missions so I can go on the internet without having a spoiler tidal wave smashing me in the face. After that, I search for the side missions (if there is any) or try it on a higher difficulty if the game is interesting enough.

I always try to do all the side missions before completing the game.
In the case of Arkham City I couldn't be bothered to try getting all the trophies in the city until after the story, and just on the basis of them not showing up - I haven't completed the side missions yet, but I will.

Only rarely have I bothered going through a harder difficulty in most games. Usually it takes achievement incentive. Like in Halo. In War for Cybertron I got the achievement for Hard for half the campaign, then got bored of what seems like impossible spamming of enemies. I tried apocalyptic in Darksiders and got up to the tower dungeon with the angel of death in it, but got stuck at a point where the super armoured bastards are introduced, and someone thought having to fight 3 of them in the same battle the first time they're introduced was a good idea.

The first time I've ever actually beat a sandbox RPG main storyline, I was booted back to the title screen. I'm never doing that again.

In an RPG I'll try to do most, or at least a good portion, of the sidequests before finishing the main story. I like to stretch it out since I sometimes lose motivation to play a game once I complete the story.

In an action game I'm a lot more likely to blast through first and then start a second time on a higher difficulty and try to find all the cool stuff.

Honestly , i start games on the highest difficulty , because normal usually bores me . So i have no reason to play a game again , also fuck games that make you finish on normal to acess the hard mode * stares at bayonetta*. i like what NIER did though , finish game , and let you restart midway to see alternative story/endings.

As for side missions

Generally, I'll play the game on medium difficulty, going through the main story and doing any side missions/collectibles that I happen to stumble across. Once I've completed it, I'll go back through and collect anything I've missed, and finish off side missions. Then I'll play the game through on hard, focussing again on the main story.

With games like GTA. I do take breaks from the main story offern and do side stuff. I prefer to finish the whole game around the whole time. If I breeze through the main story I rarely do the side stuff. To extend my playing enjoyment I find it best not to play on hard. I set the game to normal so I don't get stuck anywhere and just give up.
