AI: The Somnium Files is the latest game from Kotaro Uchikoshi, director and writer of the Zero Escape series. Honestly, I think this is the best of his work that I've played. I like it even more than 999 which was, until now, my favorite. This game was just so fantastically entertaining. The tone jumps wildly between crime thriller and comedy anime and I love it! The mystery is consistent and intriguing, without containing the dumbest plot twist ever written (ZTD I'm looking at you). It actually has a satisfying resolution unlike 50% of the Uchikoshi games I've played. The humor was enjoyable to me and I was laughing out loud quite a bit, and the final ending sequence was just so fantastic and silly it may be one of my favorite endings I've ever seen in a game.
The main gameplay sections involve exploring dreams and using what you find to solve murders. It's not so much puzzle solving as it is interacting with points of interest and watching humorous character interactions, which is far better than solving trivial puzzles in my opinion. The 3d animation and character models were also far better than Zero Time Dilemma.
All in all, I liked the game a lot and think anybody with anybody who likes visual novels should check it out.
Has anybody else here actually played the game?
