I think its more that disney is just feeling out the nostalgia market. We got them republishing the Duck Tales/Rescue Ranger/ Tailspin games not to long ago. This is just the next step.Xprimentyl said:I just recall them being visually impressive at the time, closely resembling the animated films. Gameplay wise? I don't recall anything noteworthy; even through rose-tinted glasses, they were little more than your typical, frustrating, side-scrolling platformers. Feels like they're just cashing in on the recent live-action remakes of the films: "'Member those? Well now, 'member THESE!"
Yeah that?s what it is, but it?s still better than having to emulate if the price is right.Worgen said:I think its more that disney is just feeling out the nostalgia market. It was alright, though I remember even back in the day it was just a filler title. Though in retrospect the game is more interesting as being one of Shinji Mikami's first games.hanselthecaretaker said:I played the hell out of the SNES Aladdin. Was probably the best movie tie-in game for its time, and not a bad platformer by any means.
The only reason I?d disagree is because saying Disney?s ?just feeling out the nostalgia market? is a bit like saying a blue whale is ?just a large fish,? understated and technically incorrect. Disney?s had its hands all over the nostalgia market like a blind guy on a braille sandwich for a while now in some way or another. They know EXACTLY how lucrative ?nostalgia? can be; when better to sell rehashes of damn-near 30-year-old, 16-bit, movie tie-in games than a few months after a brand new batch of pre-teens have just seen rehashes of the same damn-near 30-year-old cartoons those games are based off of?Worgen said:I think its more that disney is just feeling out the nostalgia market. I realize The Lion King is not one of the hardest games by any means, which is why I kinda use it as an example. It's a difficulty that is tough but very doable. The only level I couldn't beat as a kid was the 2nd to last level IIRC that had you going into a cave and out a different one and you needed to know the correct order. I always hated that type of level and it's why I also never beat SMB1 as a kid because of the pipes in the last castle. If anyone thinks Dark Souls is actually hard, then they haven't played many legit difficult games.hanselthecaretaker said:Super Ghouls n Ghosts is also far more difficult than pretty much any modern action game by default. Not that such a comparison even means much to begin with though.Phoenixmgs said:Finally!!! I always tell people who claim Dark Souls is hard to play The Lion King and get back to me.
Oh, yeah point taken, I really meant the gaming market but you are totally right about them being already in the nostalgic market. Games though seem to only recently have been thought of something that can go into that market. Especially, what are just re-releases of the old games and not even remakes.Xprimentyl said:The only reason I?d disagree is because saying Disney?s ?just feeling out the nostalgia market? is a bit like saying a blue whale is ?just a large fish,? understated and technically incorrect. There were two versions of Aladdin: Sega Genesis (and PC) and SNES. I never played the former, but the latter was a pretty solid platformer.Yoshi178 said:never played aladdin.Worgen said:Yeah but weren't those games not good? the lion king was amazing!
They already did a remake of that around the end of last gen. It's not on any of the current consoles afaik, but still on Steam [https://store.steampowered.com/app/227600/Castle_of_Illusion/].stroopwafel said:*sigh* gimme Castle of Illusion remastered or no deal!
At first I was all "whatchootalkingboutfool", but then I saw it. Aladdin and The Loin King. Rated AO. Ahem:Kyle Gaddo said:Actually, if you look carefully at the box art at the end, we're getting "The Loin King."
I'm sure Nala enjoyed Simba being between her loins, if you know what I mean...Kyle Gaddo said:Actually, if you look carefully at the box art at the end, we're getting "The Loin King."
