It would appear that the folks at the Cyberathelete Professional League [http://www.thecpl.com/league/] have been busy.

According to a DirecTV [http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/technology/5089148.stm], have entered into an agreement in which DirecTV has acquired broadcast rights to all CPL events, and will immediately set about broadcasting the league's Winter Championships, held in December.

I'm amusing myself greatly by imagining a Madden NFL competition broadcast with Madden as commentator. Yeah, it's unlikely, but that's kind of the point of irony. Look it up [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Irony].

It may just be me but as a gamer I still think it's boring as hell watching other people play. It's like watching people type. Do you see The Net on the Netflix Top 10 Most Queued DVDs? Nope. That's because no one wants to watch Sandra Bullock type for two hours and save large files to a 3.5 floppy. Why would I want to watch a Counter-Strike match of 18 people staring at their computers in between 10 second bursts of seeing the game itself? I'll conceed the commentary could be funny, but only if the announcers think no one's watching and just start making stuff up like Bob Euker would.
