Am I the only person who kind of hates Valve?

This may sound kind of backwards, and it is, but while I like their games, as developers they wouldn't be in my Top 5.

This is mostly because they just don't seem to know how to make a console game if their lives depended on it. Sure Valve's PC releases are great and all (Although I know quite a few people that say TF2 is a pile of shit now), but their (they're?) console release record is pretty damn spotty.

Yes, I know, Microsofts update/DLC policies are kind of shit. But when you can't even get a map pack out, that's pretty sad. What really annoys me is that for years they've been pointing the finger at Microsoft (And Sony) going "It's not us! It's them! They won't let us!" whilst other, more competent developers are able to get out a ton of DLC with little fuss. I mean, they announced the next bit of DLC for L4D2 around January. And it's not like they're building entirely new maps, they're just porting some old L4D1 maps. Any other developer could have knocked that out in a few short months. How is it other developers like Bethesda and Gearbox and even Infinity Ward/Treyarch are dependent enough to get out a good amount of DLC and updates for their games yet Valve can only get out, what? 2 bits of DLC for L4D2? Over almost two years? Both using the exact same last map to boot!

I've tried to criticism Valve in the past and am usually met with a tidal wave of hate because "They made Steam!" or "They made Half-Life/TF2/Portal!" Everybody seems to give them a free pass and I just find it shameful.
You realize that saying "I don't like them cause they don't make console games like they do pc games" Is just as silly as the arguments that people are just fanboys. As a PC centric person I love valve, not just because they make fantastic games, but because they do things on the pc that are pretty much impossible on consoles just because of restrictions, not tech issues. Portal 2 ps3 was AWESOME and it is bridging the gap between pc and console experiences.

You criticize them for dlc on console... yeah, I see your point, but they don't want to charge, and so they don't develop for a system that they don't want to charge people. I am sure they also think along the lines of not splitting the community.

I see your point, but I think you may be overreacting

Also, call me crazy but I see the lack of DLC as a good thing.
less DLC = more expansions and good/long quality products.

You're never the...

Never mind.

I have mixed feelings for Valve. They do make really good games. One of the things I don't really like about them though is the fanboys. These usually include PC elitists, people who have an irrational hatred towards F2P players on TF2, and others.

I also didn't really like how they advertised their new Counterstrike game. They catered to their fans by calling the game more complex and challenging than games like COD, which they claim is for casuals. While I don't play COD myself, it kind of bugs me when a professional developer like Valve would stoop down that low just to get people interested in their new game.

Well, obviously they should be celebrated for making great games like Portal and running Steam and IT DOES GRANT THEM THE RIGHT FOR A FREE PASS. They're not exactly a huge team of developers, but they care for the community. When Microsoft or Sony or whatever wants players to pay for some DLC, Valve goes like "FUCK NO, THAT SHIT BE FREE". Nobody else does that. Obviously, their progress on the consoles isn't too good, but they don't WANT TO. They're the opposite of others nowadays, who focus everything around the consoles and make exclusive console DLC's and bad PC ports that make you register on some fucked shit and have a constant internet connection and download patches all day and then hope that the fucking thing will even work. Besides, most developers release PC ports very late or don't release them at all.
The only ones who can complain about Valve are console games. Fuck off, console games, Valve <3's PC and so do I.

It's not Valve's fault that they can't do decent Console games, everyone in the console market is just holding the creative potential, like Microsoft and TF2

Dont everyone plays console games dude... or even gives two hoots about console games if it comes to it.

You can hate on them if you want but there is nothing wrong with specialising, especially as 80%+ of console game developers are about as good (at best) at making console ports as valve are at making PC ports.

Bottom-line, not everything is about you, get over it.

I do hate Valve not because of there games I'm not a fan of them but that's just my personal taste its the fact that I don't like buying games digitally yet for some reason all the PC games I own that valve had nothing to do with force me to use steam and everyone lets Valve get away with this yet when EA tries to do the same thing with games they funded and they are only doing it cause Valve wants a piece of the money from selling DLC they had nothing to do with either and people call EA money grubbing at least they are honest when they do it. I would be rather punched in the face than stabbed in the back

Pretty much this.

I find is worrying, persoanlly, when the amount of DLC a dev can churn out is a measure of how good they and their games are.

As long as they continue to innovate and excel as frequently as they do I certainly won't complain about any fuck ups they make.

You certainly aren't the only one, but you are in a minority.
