Amazon Launches Year End Accessory Deals

The biggest gift-giving day of the year may be over, but that doesn't mean Amazon is done cutting prices. Luckily for gamers, the online megaretailer has given some attention to various gaming accessories, including controllers, headsets, and even - gasp! - Skylanders figures.

Some of the more exciting price cuts are as follows:

Also, they're doing some crazy deep discounts for digital game downloads (which come with steam keys), many titles between 60-80% off. Spec Ops + the 2 bioshocks for example are $10 for them all, or $5 if you bought a 2k game in 2012. Would recommend having a looksie.

And you're definitely right, steam doesn't have a bunch of stuff that isn't 25%, 33%, or 30% off. No one beats them in their deals either. It isn't like Steam had a game like Awesomenauts Unlimited for only 33% off and Amazon had it for 75% off, because like you said Steam doesn't have a sale unless it's at 50%+ off.

The FEATURED STEAM SALE items are all at least 50% off.

Yes, during the TIME of the Steam Sale some are merely 30% off, but many are... 0% off. There is no price deduction, these have the sale deduction outside the special "Steam Sale" times.

Awesomenauts was FEATURED in the Steam Sale for 67% off and is now 50% off. I cannot even find Awesomenauts on Amazon.com or .co.uk websites on sale or otherwise.

Xbox Live Gold Membership is the most in-demand thing on there (how many people need ANOTHER wireless controller for their Xbox 360 considering the poor support of split-screen on Xbox 360) which is not hardware and is not even 10% off. Who cares about a 10% off deduction, it hardly changes anything for pre-release price deduction of steam games.

Very VERY rare to find someone seriously and knowledgeably say "OMG! Steam Sale! Some games are only 20% off!!! WTFBBBQ!"

My point is this Amazon sale sucks.

50% off XBL Gold Membership for 12 months, now THAT is a story.

9% off XBL Gold and 20% off an extra game controller very few have any need for... the only story there is the stinginess. I get it though, this isn't REALLY amazon's fault, Microsoft sets the prices and Amazon has probably just cut their margins to zero in this "sale". Those wireless 360 controllers are overpriced anyway. Competitors who are of equal capability and quality are half the price at normal non-sale price.

I actually made a mistake I meant Scribblenauts Unlimited not Awesomenauts Unlimited, I just finished playing Awesoenauts, I guess it was still on the brain. Scribblenauts Unlimited was actually a featured sale for only 33% off on Steam, Amazon (from 12/24-12/26) did actually manage to trump that deal with 75% off. And looking back at the sales so far there have been other non 50% off games this winter sale, Blood Bowl Chaos Edition was only 33% off and the Tom Clancy Franchise was only 30% off.

In the end my point was really one of Steam doesn't sell hardware, so bringing up Steam sales for software as a strike against Amazon's hardware sale is kind of silly. There really never are massive discounts on hardware primarily because of the whole physical vs digital thing.
If you actually want to compare Amazon software vs Steam software sale, Amazon has actually done really well to match steam and in some cases to even beat steam.

You're entitled to your opinion, but I would say that limiting oneself to only a single digital distributor is a foolish action and at the end of the day I'm the one laughing with the extra cash in my pocket because I actually shop around for the best price.

You can get most of those items on Amazon for less, just not right this minute. I got a wireless 360 controller with the USB dongle included for using it with a PC for under $40, from Amazon, last month. They sometimes have it for $35 even. The non-PC version is even cheaper. They sell XBL Gold cards for similar prices too, on a semi-regular basis. $35-40 is not too unusual. It's just this particular sale that's crap.

PS: no, Amazon has not come close to matching Steam on software discounts. The few occasions were it was marginally cheaper on Amazon are counterbalanced by the incredible abundance of games that have more generous sales on Steam.

In the past, Amazon has not been very competitive in terms of pricing for PC games. This year, they've changed that significantly, at least if you're in the US paying in USD. They quite often price match Steam when there have been significant sales on big-name games and then do slightly better, and in the second half of the year it's seemed like more often the sales have started on Amazon first. They've also had several completely ridiculous bundles this year that included multiple very good games for $10 or less total. I follow prices on sites like Slickdeals, and the proportion of games I got from Amazon compared to Steam this year, just based on price, has increased significantly. Same with GMG too.

I...hate to be that person but...why the Amazon ad? I get "Deal of the Week". It's all about whatever deals all stores have going on. Ok, awesome. But just Amazon? Amazon isn't the only one with sales. Gamestop has some sales too, Steam does too. They all have great deals in different categories so it would be cool to see-- You know what? Forget I said anything. I don't want any of that counter argument coming my way. Never mind.

OT: The only thing that interests me is the 1 year Gold membership but it's not even that big of a deal. I snatched that one before a couple of times before at random times throughout the year for $40-45, once at Amazon too.
I've come to realize some SUPER HOLIDAY DEALZZZ are not as great as they make them seem. It wasn't a secret either but still.

I'm not in the US paying US Dollars. Steam sales have global discounting.

Price match isn't enough considering the extra features Steam offers while even on my crappy middle-of-nowhere internet connection I can download a game quicker than one can be delivered in the mail.

Amazon may be heading in the right direction, but Steam is also heading in a good direction at a high pace.

Anyway, my particular point is even if Amazon DOES have good sales at other times THIS IS NOT ONE OF THEM.
