American Heist - Shallower Than Payday 2

There aren't a lot of good heist movies being made nowadays, and American Heist is the prototype for the bad ones.

Wait just a second... Sugar AND Ray... <link=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zUtnwcv-quE>Sugar Ray?? Are you sure this movie's not just a hidden parody in disguise?

Other than that, Hayden's a producer for this film? And his acting's not that good either? Are you REALLY sure this movie's not just a hidden parody in disguise??

It makes me truly sad that someone has the last name Kittles, but doesn't have a first name that starts with "S." How could they miss that gaping wide opportunity?? Totally heartbreaking.

Adrian Brody I like, it's a pity he is now forever tarnished with this film.

Adrian Brody's career to date is something of a puzzle to me. Usually an actor destined for an Academy Award does a few OK movies, gets noticed, does some better movies, finds their stride, wins an (or a series of) awards, and then either continues this streak or at least gets choosy about their projects.

Adrian Brody on the other hand, since winning his Oscar seems to have almost exclusively done the kind of roles even a B-lister would have to be hard up to take. The Village, Wrecked, the King Kong remake, Third Person. Even in Predators (a film I genuinely loved) which didn't have great acting, and Adrian Brody wasn't even the strongest character.

Biggest dispute re: movies between me and the boy: How great was in "Splice". I think his biggest mistep has been "The Jacket". He's OK. I liked HIM in the sub-par Predator's. He did his job.

I freely admit that he was good in Splice, but it was still an OK movie at best, and while he made the most of it, it wasn't a very well written or developed part.

I mean, hats off to the guy if he is choosing to make films he genuinely wants to make, but it feels like he has more to offer.

The direct-to-vod comment reminded me that Sandler's movies are also going to be direct-to-vod. Is that where actors go to put a bullet in their careers? Has there been a good direct-to-vod movie ever made?

There have been. It's just that most of them aren't.

I mean, just this year, The Last Five Years, The Voices, Manglehorn, Spring, Faults, and Adult Beginners were VOD titles (simultaneous with extremely limited theatrical releases). The majority suck, it's true, but some go to VOD because they're just not marketable enough, not because they're not good.
