One of the many shorts seen on Cartoon Network's DC Nation, the channel's block for programs based on DC Comics characters, is "Amethyst, Princess of Gemworld". These shorts, based on the 1980's DC comic series of the same name, were a 7-part colorful story of fantasy and adventure. Since it recently finished and they were the shorts I was most looking forward too, I'd like to go over them in this short review.
PLOT: The story starts with a teenage girl named Amy Winston sitting in her room playing a handheld video game when she all of the sudden gets called by the game and gets transported inside Gemworld. She's told she's the princess of this world and must go on a quest before she can be sent back home on Earth. Aided by her own alicorn and some sort of magical energy sword, she comes across several challenges caused by the bad guy of the game, Dark Opal along with finding Prince Topaz, the defeated hero of the game who gets reduced to skeleton.
Overall, a pretty short and simple story
GOOD: The art is awesome. It's pretty much the best thing about these shorts. The artist, Brianne Drouhard, is really talented at making these really cool and colorful characters and settings. The animation is also pretty good. There are plenty of fantasy action scenes and they look great in these shorts. These are just 2 things but I think they're both worth a recommendation.
BAD: The dialogue is...awkward. It seems like the script has been chopped a lot to fit the length and if it was, it shows. It would have been an excellent series if it wasn't for this very noticable flaw. The story can still be understood well enough, it just doesn't sound right.
WHERE CAN I SEE IT?: All 7 parts can be found on YouTube. Whether they'll be taken down by Cartoon Network or not, I'm not sure. You'll have to check them out before that happens.
That is all. Thanks for reading!

By the end she manages to defeat Dark Opal, restore the Prince, and with her quest ended, she gets sent back home
