An angry rant about modern multiplayer games

DONT ASSUME AS A GAMER ALL MY FRIENDS EXIST ONLINE!!

I am sick and tired of all these modern games having "lobbies" and all this PC bullshit.. why, after waiting for 3 minutes for the goddamn map to load, do i then have to watch a "game starts in 5....4....3....2....1..?" what is the point!?

I had a couple of friends over last week, we decide to give a multiplayer bout of Firefight on ODST a go.. I assumed of course that it wouldnt be limited to 2 on a splitscreen like in GOW..

So i sign in, someone else signs in.. another guest.. "IM SORRY YOU CANNOT PLAY OFFLINE AS SOMEONE DOES NOT HAVE XBOX LIVE!!".. ugh.. exit lobby.. get them to sign out.. then (i wasnt entirely sober and it was a while ago so my memory's not crystal), but i remember having the warning come up again.. i click ok.. it comes up again.. i click ok.. etc.. this went on for an annoyingly long time (friends thought this was hilarious but veins were popping in my forehead at this stage)

I ended up giving up and having a game of halo3 as with us all signed in as guests just in case the game decided to throw a hissy fit

And why, in GOW, do i have to watch the match play out when im dead? there are no other human players!! I dont give a shit about watching bots take pot shots at each other while both cowering behind cover.. why cant there be an auto resolve?? but oh no, that would dispel the illusion of me playing fuckin online..

Lobbies came from PC? Thought that was the console end, which is why PC players were bitching about the removal of dedi servers.

well its a countdown at the end of a countdown, thats what bothers me..

thats my whole point mate, I wanted to play 2p wingman on GOW online, but i couldnt, so we HAD to play with bots...

speaking of bots, halo should have some..

Personal Computer or Politically Correct?

The only PC games in my experience that use lobbies are RTS, racing games and some dodgy Korean free to play FPS. When it comes to anything else I love my drop in/drop out gameplay. Clearly the best way to do it.

Having the countdown to game start is useful because it allows players to get ready/finish thier sandwich/whatever or squad up, assign a commander, come up with some form of plan etc (notable example - Battlefield 2).

Sometimes its annoying, but most of the time its only found in PC games where it serves a useful purpose.

yeah, the argument about the countdown and the having to watch bots is petty ill admit..

but it is still really, REALLY annoying that the game wont let me play with friends because some accounts dont have xbox live.. oh im sorry, i thought i selected LOCAL game.. bah
