An eerily specific question about Fallout: NV

Hey guys and gals.

I've searched the forums here and every search engine I know but can't find the answer to this quandry:

I want to make the Scavenger Platform (an outdoor location) my home and want to fill up the shelves and flat surfaces with the spoils of war; guns, piles of cash, teddy bears etc. I'd keep all my unique and specialist items in a safe container of course but want to make the place look like a floating armoury.

My question is, do items left outdoors disappear after a while? I've tried waiting for 14 game days and my test item (a laser pistol on a shelf) remains there but I don't want to go through the effort of placing everything if there is some kind of arbitrary re-spawn time that applies to outdoor locations.

Any help, experiences or horror stories would be greatly appreciated.

I'm not sure exactly but you could always try The Vault [http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Fallout_Wiki] and see if they can help you out. They've got a guide of where you can stay in Fallout 3 so I'm assuming they've done the same for New vegas by now.

I think some containers respawn, but IIRC, items left on the ground stay where you left them.

In any case, 14 game days should be long enough to test.

I know in Fallout 3 stuff would lay around forever, even if you left the game and reloaded.

I mean, sometimes. And sometimes it wouldn't. I don't know why and how, or if NV works the same way.

From what I remember playing Fallout 3, items placed on the ground will stay there indefinitely, unless someone or something picks them up. As long as any enemies you may have killed there don't respawn, I think you're good.

Many thanks for the responses!

Sassafrass: The Vault was my first port-of-call but they had no info on the subject (that I could find) and I figured the escapist had a larger user base equalling a faster response time.

Countchocula99: I hoped 14 days was enough too and it seems to work. I know many containers do re-spawn so you have to be careful.

*EditMuchos Gracias for all the input. If any passing mods want to shut down this thread then please do, I'm grateful for the info. Cheers!

Most containers respawn, unfortunately, and I believe that over time, items, just like bodies, will disappear.
Your best bet is to check the New Vegas Nexus for a mod to either stop the respawns, or to find a suitable house.
There are about 42 pages of building/house mods (Including a rather handy Nazi Zombie mod, inspired by the CoD games version). I know that there are 2-3 water-based house mods.
There is also a secluded cabin mod, it is quite nice, and I think it would be safe to leave stuff laying around in that area.

i think the only bodies i've ever seen disappear in the game were bodies with no items on them; bodies that still had items on them seemed to remain indefinitely
