If the link doesn't work, here's a PDF:

Does anyone else want to get into this game? Everything I hear about this game is insane, especially the stories my friends tell me about what happens to their fortresses. How can an indie developer make a game like this yet Squaresoft-Enix, Bethesda, or Bioware never approach such awesomeness?

Because they probably didn't have a company breathing down their neck or restrictive time limits.

Example: I get an assignment from my Social Studies teacher. 16 paragraphs, each paragraph written using the hamburger method (it's complicated) and specific paragraphs containing certain words, all of them having the phrase "For Example".

I fulfill the assignment to the letter, with no frills. A computer would consider it perfect.

Example 2: I get an assignment from my English teacher to write a Fractured Fairy tale. Those are my only guidelines. I write a 17 page epic that she is going to use as an example for next year.

People work better with a push, not a tackle.

You could also read up "Boatmurdered", which is probably even slightly more epic.

The fun I have with this game has basically gone through the roof, since the last update, where you can find enormous caverns underground, with its own wildlife, creatures and hidden fun stuff.

Well there have been some new annoying bugs with the new versions.
But the community doesn't complain, but rather looks humorous ways to work around it.
I've yet have to see this in another community...

I've just been busy lately, so I hadn't much time to play.
But in a week or so, I should be able to start my first mega project.

I you're interested, here's one great story from my last fortress (which had to succumb to "fun" soon afterwards):

Holy Hell he made it with only two dwarves left...

Heh heh. I read a story where the guy lost ONE dwarf in the game and his entire fortress lost their minds at the concept of dying being a real thing. and proceeded to murder the ever loving crap out of eachother. with eachothers spinal chords. they didnt say anything about Giant LOL signs being in the fight, so Im going to assume their was some.

As for DF itself...

I actually *ENJOY* ASCII graphics, but I can't make heads or tails of WTF is going on DF. and the graphical patches don't tell you how to install properly >_>

You can dowload the gold plated version of this game.
It uses the best looking tileset at the moment and you don't have to install anything manually.
