There's an old PC game my brother and I used to play a lot in I believe the late 1990's (it may have come out earlier than that). It was a first-person shooter with graphics extremely similar to those of the original Doom. The main gist of the game was that you were this guy with a gun trying to escape (I think) from a haunted mansion. There were several monsters like witches and vampires (and maybe zombies or mummies) that would pop out at the same time and place like clock-work, and would sometimes patrol an area. The more you got damaged, the more an image of your head on one of the bottom corners of the screen decayed, and eventually it would become a skull, signaling that you were about to die.
In order to beat a level I think you had to find a certain key or multiple colored keys to open locked doors, and at the end you would wind up in a room where it counted all of your points and the number of monsters you killed or something like that.
In one part of the game, you would go outside of the mansion into a garden sort of place with hedges all over. Inside the hedges, there were rabbit-demon-looking gargoyles, and some of them would come alive and run at you to attack, and I believe that the end of the hedge maze had a key for the level.
Much further in the game, they introduced new monsters (like skeletons, oh dear God the skeletons) and there was a sort of box-pushing maze with keys obviously visible but hard to get to.
I remember this game being called something like "Nightmare", but I can't seem to find it anywhere. Any help or similar agonizing nostalgia would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.
