Analyst Boosts Battlefield 3 Sales Prediction

Industry analyst Doug Creutz has increased his first-year sales prediction for Call of Duty: Black Ops [http://www.amazon.com/Battlefield-3-Limited-Pc/dp/B002I0HJZO/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1311359880&sr=8-3].

Sales predictions, when you get right down to it, don't mean a whole lot, but the word coming out of Cowen & Co. has to be making EA smile nonetheless. Analyst Doug Creutz has increased his first-year sales estimate for the upcoming Battlefield 3 from a very respectable eight million units to 11 million, noting that BF3 preorders to this point are "roughly comparable" to Activision's 2010 release Call of Duty: Black Ops. That game has sold more than 20 million units worldwide since its release.

Battlefield 3 is EA's best shot at reclaiming the modern combat shooter crown - or at the very least, becoming a legitimate contender once again. The previous game to square off against the Modern Warfare juggernaut, the 2010 Medal of Honor [http://www.amazon.com/Medal-Honor-Pc/dp/B002ZJPYHS/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1311359986&sr=8-3] reboot, managed to break five million unit sales, enough to earn a sequel but not to be any real threat to the Call of Duty dominance.

If Creutz is correct, Battlefield 3 could very well succeed where Medal of Honor did not, although the odds of it actually taking home the belt are just about non-existent: BF3 may be running neck-and-neck with Black Ops, but the upcoming Modern Warfare 3 [http://www.amazon.com/Call-Duty-Modern-Warfare-3-Pc/dp/B00503EAG2/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1311360052&sr=8-3] is handily beating them both.

I sincerely hope this will happen, so that might encourage devs to make more complex multiplayer mods.

That would be the day I pose as a drag queen and post it here on The Escapist. It's never going to happen but I suppose it doesn't hurt to dream.

Blah blah blah.... I am so tired of these predictions. These guys have no way of knowing, they aren't analyzing any data, as their name implies. They are playing a guessing game at this point. The only thing I care about is shitty old EA's response. Clearly, the game is going to be massively successful, but if it's not beating Activision, EA won't care.

Using the past to predict the future is retarded. Might as well start breaking out the tarot cards and rabbit entrails... actually trying to predict it at all is retarded, you can create any probability scale you like but that doesn't mean jack about what will happen.

I hope it sells well. I bought both products last time. I'm thinking I might just stay with battlefield this year though.

Wait until you find out how the financial market works.

And just think how many more pre-orders they could have had if the released it on Steam.

Good work EA, restricting your market.

All they have to do is show more gameplay clips and people will flock to it. CoD on the other hand would benefit from not showing any gameplay, not unless they want people to see that nothing has changed.
