If you can't tell, I love the anime... *looks at own avatar*... and yes, it has a lot of Yaoi / Shota themes. But to me, I think there are a lot better things to focus on over that aspect. THe story is great, art is beautiful, characters all unique and easily identifiable, funny and serious when needed with good voice acting to boot (as far as the Sub goes anyway)

I won't deny that the shota will put some people off. The Corset scene and a few others are not all that good for people who will just cringe at that kind of thing. I will say that it is as bad as you make them out to be. Some will be completely off put by it. Fair enough. Although, same could be said for a lot of other animes. And I don't mean just shota / yaoi, but any kind of fanservice used in an anime could put people off (except HOTD, that's just plain funny XD (they have their own sound effects for christ sake)). I'd give it a chance even though it has that kind of theme. It might have shotacon, it's not all about the shotacon.

I'd recommend it to anyone (biased view but oh well) and also if you want to see another smaller review of Kuroshitsuji, I'd check here =3 [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/326.250204-Stupid-Beyond-Relief-Reviews-Black-Butler-Season-1], for a more non biased sounding opinion than one comming from me.

To call Kuroshitsugi a shota is wrong. It barely focuses on the shota. It's just for comic relief. The actual story was not even regarded in the review. The motivation of Ciel and the subsequent episodes which lead to the end of the series. I am critical to this review because simply classifying it as shotacon is jumping to conclusions.

Fanservice is present yes. But to focus on it solely is biased. Example is HoTD. Even though it has tons of fanservice it still is a good view.

Oh, you get a good view, all right...
I would include some images, but the escapist isn't too fond of that stuff...

As for Kuroshitsuji(?): I haven't really watched it, but I think the review seems to be focusing on the fact that it contains shota, rather than the other qualities of the show.

Oh come on its as gay as maoh kara kyo, tho its not so much gay as oddly funny useing running gay/bi entendres.

I watched 5 eps and gave up on it, maoh kara kyo is alot more fun and dramatic while Kuroshitsuji just dose not compute for me like vampire knight it felt shallow and trying to hard at what it was trying to do ether the drama or comedy..

Then again I am a shonen and ecchi nut job, I like adventure anime with action the most them more dramatic stuff(digimon,Beet the vandle buster,Tegami Bachi,Index ,Fairy tail,BLech,Naruto,One peice, gundam(even tho I loath seed),Legend of the Legendary Heroes,Shinrei Tantei Yakumo,Line barrels,Needless,Gurren laggen) ecchi/odd wise I enjoyed Shinryaku! Ika Musume,Rosario+Vampire(even if the anime was worse than the manga),Tenchi,Ore No Imouto. And random romance/shojo titles like Lovely complex, Fruits basket, Kotoba(sp?) and that 2 series one that was based in china the reversed harem one and no not FY its more recent than that.

Ya I am a strange one still trying to watch to love ru uhg Anikan was better ><

i watched it recently i thought it was great. wasn't as homosexual as i heard it would be, would never had guessed if i hadn't be told. it got a bit weird towards the end and Kuroshitsuji II was stranger, really wanted that blond kid to die. altogether a good anime.

I got recommended this anime so eventhough the review makes it sound a bit weird I'll check it out. I'm in need of a serious-ish anime with occassional comic relief so I'm guessing I'll like this.

You really jumped to conclusions on this one sir.
There are some tones of homosexuality but it's never played for drama, never explored past the initial joke, and definitely not the main focus of this show.

HOTD stands for Highschool of the Dead. A newish anime that came out a few months ago now. School teens, zombies, guns and tits. Very fun though and I recommend it if you're looking for a fun anime to watch.

I do have to say that this was perhaps one of the more... lackluster reviews on the site. If we don't know what Shouta is, link to wikipedia or something and let us read for ourselves.

Ecchi is not softcore cartoon porn, but instead more risque (panty shots, skirt flipping, innuendo's, etc). It can include the more softcore stuff, but we usually just classify that as softcore hentai.

You didn't actually, you know, talk much about the plot, or the fact that the manga and anime go two different routes, or that, you know the whole thing with Jack the Ripper being more than just a person, or, you, know, anything.

You were completely right in calling it Shoutacon, though Shonen-Ai with shouta is probably better, because, well, Boku no Pico is a Shouta hentai. Not a Yaoi shota hentai, just a Shota hentai; the Yaoi part is understood.

I really enjoyed this anime,

but I think this review blew the shota theme of it out of proportion. Sure it is hinted (Strongly a few times o_O ), but that's not what it is about.

The shota part of it was probably the last thing I really noticed.

Being British, I groaned when I watched this, and while the voice acting is OK (oooooh, Maaya Sakamoto - as Ciel - was so miscast for this, should've had Hiro Shimono or Yuu Kobayashi at the very least, though Sebastian and all the otherworldly cast was pretty much spot on), the plots were so hammy that I honestly couldn't enjoy it, for all the premise showed potential.

I love this anime, but the one thing that bothers me is in watching, I never went "wow, those two have a relationship." I think black butler is an amazing anime, it has action and comedy that I think blends perfectly, this review to me focesed on one aspect and kept going, black butler is not all shotacon, it is a lot more, the anime has the ability to combine death with comedy and it works, not many anime I have seen can do that, I still think everyone should give this anime a look over, the first episode left me laughing at what happened. If you like a good laugh and are the type of person that thinks very feminine guys are funny, then you will love black buteler (or kuroshitsuji in japanese).

Sebastian was SO much more awesome than Claude. normally i'd say the the lesser person at least had their moments of awesome but....i don't think he did in this. Alois was weird, when he gouged the maid's eye out at the start for some pathetic reason the hatred started. and what was with the 'your Highness'? took me a while to actually believe he was a HE

As some people here i failed to see the gay content in this anime, i read most of the manga that is out this far, and really funny, specially when the other characters story is worked, looks can be deceiving.

This is why I like the manga, less shota-ey elements.

Good review though. :>
