A potentially interesting premise quickly goes nowhere.

Yeah, you pretty much got this one right, though I think I enjoyed the series more then you did, purely because... I'm actually not sure.

It's actually not the bad. It's exactly as it looks; Uta-wa-re-ru-mono. The "re" part may or may not be soft or hard, depending on your preference/accent.
I'm guessing you knew that, and where instead just joking about the title, which I have also done.

But hey, it's pretty good considering it's based on a little known video game for the PS2

I liked the show. LIKED, not LOVED. I found it on Netflix on istant play and watched it. It blew a few hours out of my life and I was further enlightened on anime from that point onward. The series wasn't good, but wasn't bad. The reviewer said it best when he said that the characters had poor development and the main character had the personality of a rock. Good ideas but no backbone.

I very much enjoyed the series for the half I saw.

I actually find it a bit tiresome when an anime series lives and dies by the central plot, having every episode reiterate that a person has no memory of their previous life is unnecessary when the story of the week or the moment can do without that info. And having the central character be whiny about a situation gets tiresome, too many protagonists get upset about the situations they are in, the man man in this series instead reacts subdued, which is original, I would take a detached Jin over a spastic Mugen (Samurai Champloo) in most cases as a better character type.

Never actually heard of this before, but from the way it seems to be I think there is a good reason for that....Ah well.

Sure something out there I can spend my time on ^^

I concur, good sir.

I actually really liked the first half of this anime but, after that, it pretty much went nowhere.

I guess it all depends on taste regarding this review. I thoroughly enjoyed this series, even when things went a tad crazy at the end. It's like completely rating Evangeleon or the Helsing tele series for their endings in a sense. (though don't get me wrong, Eva and Helsing had very abrupt bleh endings, which Utaware took a bit longer to try and explain itself).

I honestly think it should be watched. Or rented (Instead of insta-watched on those internet rental sites), as there are little omake episodes per dvd in the extras that are absolutely hilarious.

I thought it would be appropriate to additionally quote this member, as I feel the same. I find an anime that doesn't baby you through every single episode to be a nice change of pace from the usual blood on the market. Hakuro's quiet, subtle, and sometimes overwhelmed personality is completely understandable for someone who takes the role of a leader and had no past to speak for. That does not instantly qualify him as having the 'personality of a brick'.

This series was quite enjoyable to me.
"Unless you really can't find anything else to watch, don't bother with this series", was way to negative of a comment. This series has flaws, but so do other more popular series like any of the US televised anime series.
Just because an anime does not fit your specific palette does not make it bad.

Complaing about the plot being pedestrian is like complaining about a movie like Avatar recycling a used plot.

The show wasn't terrible and okay right up until the end where the entire thing broke down in the usual anime "darker and more absurd" twists started being thrown down. Actually I was only watching for Karura (club chick) at that point.

Also, they were originally going to dub the show's name to "Shadow Warrior Chronicles" but apparently some Internet people didn't like it. So instead we have Oo-tah-ware-roo-moan-oh". Thanks Internet fanbase!

MirrorMoon translated the title pretty accurately as "The one of whom legends are sung".

I saw the show after I read the game and didn't really like it all that much. While it does remove all the things that drag the game's story down (the pointless and creepy sex), it also takes out all the plot and character intricacies and development that made the game good.

"I am somewhat distraught by the unfortunate circumstances that have befallen me."

Greatest line ever...

But then again this applies to characters in about 98% of all the animes I watch...

Stilted Speech is a rare and cool personality trait, I like it when it is applied to characters other than the token nerd of the team (eg. Billy From Power Rangers).

I think this anime falls under the umbrella of "Generic Fantasy Anime." It had a lot of potential, just kinda meandered around a bit, I enjoyed parts of it, but I do agree that at the end of it there was this awkward feeling that it just stopped. Probably good, I was getting a little tired of watching it at that point.

I've seen worse anime out there, so I guess it falls under the mediocre category.

I can do you one better: Bakumatsu Kikansetsu Irohanihoheto [http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=6819] :3

That aside, the only thing that ever intrigued me about this anime were the cat girl...things. After reading this, I'm not sure even the girls can make me watch this.

I enjoyed this anime. Yes, the plot fell on its face towards the end but I did not have high hopes for that anyway. This anime falls in the in general category. It is enjoyable and does not cost lots of time or effort to enjoy it. Not every thing we watch has to be absurdly profound to be good. I also must qualify that I'm also saying this after watching this anime after going through Death Note, and Code Geass which are two very cerebral animes and might just have been on Xantos Speed Chess overload.

I think it's pronounced "Underwater Ray Romano".

http://i436.photobucket.com/albums/qq84/DurrHurr/funny%20pictures/underwaterrayromano.jpg

Jokes aside, the most best thing you've got to say about it is "main character wakes up with amnesia" makes for an interesting plot?

Ugh, I'll add this one to my list of anime to stay away from.
