- there are a LOT of really good animes out there, many of which arent built around sex

- the reason there are so many animes out there obsessed with sex appeal is because porn is illegal in japan, so there is a big market for sex, even if the storyline sucks. (animes and mangas have taken great care to thoroughly test their boundarys and what the gov't considers "porn", resulting in many animes that would very easily be considered porn in the places like the USA)

- you say you dont hate anime, but yet you practicly imply that anime is an insult to the very human race (tho may be true in some animes, but not all)

like you said, anime is an intire type of media, so you shouldnt judge an intire media on just a single example

I dislike Higurashi for it's dislogue and terrible characters.
So how exactly are you rating the dialogue? Either you're significantly more fluent in Japanese than the horrific lingusitic butchery of your posts indicates you are with English, or your competence to make that judgement is significantly impaired by the fact that you are talking about a language you are not fluent in.

I still hate the show. I've been trying to watch it, it's just too hard for me to get into.
I think we're arriving at a point. Now, if you don't like the characters for personal subjective reasons, that could colour your impression of the show as a whole, but that doesn't mean the show itself is bad, just that you personally don't like it (and that you have no taste).

Of course, it's probably too much to expect intellectually honest criticism on the internet, because people are just interested in screeching and hyperbole. But when your hyperbole is so easily deflated, using it just makes you look stupid. (and reduces my surprise that you don't appear to like any complex TV shows, like Higurashi, or I saw digs at what was likely Code Geass).

Sounds like you don't like some of the anime series you've seen and have a general stereotypical opinion of something you don't understand - and therefore feel the need to post a rant about how much it sucks. Pretty similar to people who rant against certain genres of books, or music, or movies, or video games, or sports.

If you don't like it, in lieu of telling people on a forum that it sucks, just don't watch it. And post opinions with substance, since "Anime sucks for the following reasons" isn't really a review.

I like many different series. No differently to how I like different movies and books.

@Purple Rain's original post:
You have to live with the fact that 90% of everything is basically crap that will be forgotten within a few years. I am a horror movie fan, but I can tell you that 4 out of 5 movies are a waste of time, but those that are good, are really good.

I've watched a lot of anime as well (and still intend to watch some more), and I know that most of them lack quality, but I don't stop watching them because I would miss jewels like "Samurai Champloo". Don't let fanboiz ruin everything for you, if we were to listen to them, we would be glorifying Halo 3 on the whole forum.

And don't criticize the lack of physics and common sense in Animes/Mangas, unless it's intended to be super-uber-realistic, it's just pointless...

Why does Halo 3 get beaten up the moment fanboys are mentioned?

Anime is weird, thats the point.

some is over-the-top crap, but thats the same for any media.

seriously, i don't know why people think Avatar is just for kids, the animation is well drawn and its got just as many jokes for those of the above 4 1/2 foot persuasion, not to mention it has a dude shooting lightning, how can that not rock?
- Funny you should mention that, I just finished watching Seasons 2 and what was released of Season 3 (up to ep 13) and it's a fantastic series! The writing and voice acting for the show are so, so good and the animation quality is excellent. I suppose when you're not cutting out scenes like they do for anime then you're getting a much purer story experience.

Avatar is a great show, chock full of kung fu fireball shooting goodness, with almost none of the filler that equivalent shounen anime series inevitably descend into because they try and stretch a couple of seasons worth of arc out to nine million episodes. One Piece, Inu Yasha, Dragonball, Naruto, Bleach, and many others illustrate this perfectly. It's an object lesson in knowing exactly where you're going before you start writing an arc, and having a predetermined fixed number of episodes in which to get there, so you know exactly where to put all the chekovs guns, when to fire them, and what at, and don't get to pad your show with entire seasons' worth of filler because you just want to milk the fanbase some more. (Not exclusive to anime either. Western TV fans may recognise this as "X-Files Disease"). Avatar as a story will stop at 61 episodes. If there is a fourth season, it will not follow Aang or any of the (major) characters we have yet seen.

Pity Nickelodeon seem to disagree, to the extent that by the time they actually get around to showing the episodes, everyone's already seen them from the bloody DVD rips (The Boiling Rock), and it's not coming back on until July or some damn thing like that.

For mentioning Robotech rather than any of the anime it's derived from, you officially hate anime.

Errr... Digimon is American....
But anyway, some anime are pretty good, some just suck. But i find it more fun to juz read the manga they're based on, its usually much better than the anime.
But really, the Japanese have issues with physical laws, not juz in anime (FF7)

The final episode of Excel Saga is one of it's finest jokes. It's written specifically to violate each and every single broadcast standard for Japanese TV, down to being exactly a minute too long for a TV timeslot.

The episode title? "Going Too Far".

Your friend has horrible taste, and is a pervert.

Watch the Ghost in the Shell series, GiTS Stand Alone Complex and 2nd Gig. They are great shows. Deep, complex, animated well. Plus it's not full of 9 year old girls.

How shall I start this, probably at the very beginning would be a good idea. I started watching anime because nothing else on British TV was any good. Bland, brainless, repetitive, and downright annoying, the whole bloody lot of it. Then this friend of mine comes along at starts bugging me about this thing he had once seen called anime. In fact he started bugging me, and others quite a lot, up to the point when it became rather irritating.
Anyway, I, along with others gave it a crack, and that was that. Well for everyone else it was a case of what is this crap, while I was sitting there wondering where has this stuff been all my life.
15 films and 30 series (brief approximations) later I have come to the point where I feel pretty much sated. All the new series, for all their technical magnificence simply do not cut it any more. Not to sound old fashioned or anything, but there is a significant lack in originality in the 'brand new ideas' department.
Which is a shame really, since that was what attracted me to anime in the first place. You watch a good series and you think to yourself 'this is nothing like anything else I have ever seen before'. No really, a good anime is totally unique and that, to me anyway, has always been the great appeal of it.
For example, I would be hard pressed to find anything as dark and as funny as Crest of the Stars. No seriously, the very notion of taking the film 'Starship Troopers' and writing it like a Harry Potter. What were they thinking? But against all known rules of logic it worked, and worked well.
FLCL would be another good example. Jacquline Wilson, Tex Avery, and Douglas Adams were never renowned for the acid dropping sessions they had together. Had it been the case, then their resultant collaboration may have looked something like that aforementioned work of head-splitting genius.
Now and Then, Here and There is also unique. Brutal, absolutely brutal series, but totally gripping. No really, I could go on for hours.
