So I just read some gaming news, and stumbeled upon an article about Ubisoft's new release Anno 2070.

It appears you can install Anno 2070 on 3 different systems.
Not all bad right?

Wrong!
Change one component and it counts as an install on a new system.
This is due to the hardware id # hash changing rendering the activation invalid

You can always contact Ubisoft to unlock it again, but Ubisoft Netherlands says it is no easy way to do so.
Though it seems the developer, bluebyte, was more helpful.

Since I really like to hear my words again:

Oh gosh, why is it that Ubisoft doesn't get that many sales on the PC market? Yeah, it has to be those dang pirates. It has nothing to do with the fact that Ubisoft screws their customers over...
It's even worse. Every time their PC sales falter even more, they blame piracy some more make even more draconian DRM, drive away even more customers so their sales drop further, which they blame on pirates, etc.

It's like they're on drugs with their fingers in their ears...

Why do they do this? Just why?
Are they trying to outdo EA or something, there has to be some explanation for this. Is it some kind of secret buisness practice that will actully result in more sales somehow?

I read about this earlier today; absolutely ridiculous approach to DRM.

This game has no offline mode.

If it can not connect to Ubisoft servers it will not let you play.

I had this problem the 2nd night of my purchase, in which the servers were down for maintenance and I could not access the game for the entire night. I was pretty pissed off.
