Now we can only wait to see what happens when you splice the hate-filled tactics of 4Chan with the hate filled tactics of Republicans who would admire such attacks...this is not a baby we want born...

I also find it odd that a conservative group would describe itself in such a way...as the phrase "I am legion for we are many" has certain negative scriptural connotations...and even from just a PR perspective, describing yourself as Legion in this way does kinda draw up images of Hell's Host...

What does that slogan have to do with the Tea Party? Why would they use that?

I think it was just words to get Anonymous off t heir backs. The phrase isn't copyrighted or trademarked at all. All the macro moves and spamming that Anonymous uses is just retarded in my opinion.if you don't want someone to use your slogan, copyright it
I think the whole point of Anonymous is that they don't need to work within the law. If you imagine the internet as a city, then imagine a horrid, squalid slum full of crime and curb stomping in this city. And then imagine Anonymous as the nasty mafia types who live in the aforementioned nasty part of town and who come around your house and hammer your fingers in if you start talking shit about them. Yeah.
So when somebody steals their slogan they don't even consider using legal means, they just troll away until something gives. This tactic practised on Tom Greens show with some hilarious effects.

I find them to be stupid and disgustingly annoying. But at the same time I admire the level of freedom they posses, the sheer lack of moral and ethical awareness they use when ruining somebody's life. The power they wield despite being a bunch of idiotic plebs sitting in their bedrooms typing nasty things about people.

Yes, because they totally invented the phrase.

The Christian Bible: Mark 5:9 "My name is Legion, for we are many."

Hell, the list of times it has been used in pop-culture makes it even less original.

Yes, I am aware that I am stating that my own username and title is not original.
Erm, they weren't just using the name Legion, they were using the entire damn slogan.

How the hell do they explain that? It's not like some Tea Party publicist could have accidentally came up the exact same phrase on their own and found it perfectly applicable to the group. At least, I sure as hell hope not.

I always wonder if there's a few different Anonymous groups online, they go from satirical parody and justifiable protest to posting porn aimed at kids in an instant. That attack on the epilepsy site a few years ago was unforgivable seeing as the intent was to trigger epilepsy but then they go and do something positive like 'chanology'.
Again, it's back to crowdsourcing - there is no "group" or "groups" there is just a pool of anonymous people. Some of those people will do something like chanology, others wil attack an epilepsy site, others will cyberbully an 11-year old girl on youtube, and others will sit around spanking it to deviant porn, and electing Isaiah Mustafa the king of /b/.

They aren't even factions really - just peopel within this larger pool lumping around ideas, and then dispersing back into the pool again when the fun has been had.

The #1 rule of the internet - the ONE thing every person using it should know - don't provoke anonymous. just don't do it. Don't acknowledge them, don't borrow from them, just leave them in their own little vaccuum. If you try to engage them in any way, you are going to lose, unless you bring some epic win (see the old spice guy).
Is that just a hypothetical, or was there actually an Old Spice MYMCSL Anoymous showdown I didn't hear about? Because I would love to see someone actually be able to knock them down a peg to humble them for once.

If someone really wants to undermine the Tea Parties, it would be better to imply that 4chan is supporting them...

I must say I'm surprised to hear this turned out so well. The Oregon Tea Party was stupid to use that slogan which simply doesn't apply to them at all and sounds stupid being used by them, besides that it's already used by and affiliated with such a disreputable sort of group as Anonymous. And Anonymous was smart to explain to the Tea Party what they did wrong while in the midst of raiding them. The one-two punch of cruel punishment and reasoning seems to have worked.

Proof that authority sucks... Or if you don't like that, then replace authority with conservatives.

What I find so humorous with this incident is that, with the nature of "Anonymous", one of the tea-partiers is, most likely, part of it.

I would have thought someone would have come forward with the suggestion that this might have occured. Then again, perhaps someone knew and simply awaited "teh lulz".

The campaign was clearly a win and entertaining as always, but does anyone else find it disturbing that the Tea Party [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tea_Party_movement], which bills itself as a legitimate voice of conservative political dissent in the United States, "admires" the tactics of Anonymous?
YES.

Not really surprised, but definitely disturbed.
