And the people of Anonymous shoot themselves in the foot AGAIN, because quite frankly this doesn't spread a message; quite the opposite - it stems the flow of information, and people will not know what the fuss is about unless the news tells them.

EVERYTHING WE DO MAKES OUR POTENTIAL SUPPORTERS HATE US!

WHAT DO WE DO?

DO IT SOME MORE! MAYBE THEY'LL CHANGE THEIR MINDS!!!

dumbasses.
Took the text right out of my reply box. :p

In theory it could work.

If one assumes that all those horrible world leaders can't access their porn, then that'll get their attention.

OH GOD, I won't be able to access my porn either! Hmm, quite the double edged sword.

If anyone can do it Anon can. However I question the fact that they'll essentially be attacking our freedom, even if it is for a good cause.

As long as it's just the DNS servers, we'll still be able to use online gaming services. Steam, PSN, XBL, etc would still work.
Kind of annoying but the Internet, along with my life has been distracting me from gaming for a while now.
I don't like them or what they are doing but I am curious to see how people would react to this scenario.

What is this I don't even...

They are going to shut down the entire internet? Is that even possible?
Yes, it's completely possible. The technical explanation they have posted on the pastebin is theoretically sound. I'd be surprised if it succeeds with all of those servers, seeing as most of them should be rather well protected from just this kind of thing, but without sufficient security, it will definitely work.

That said, it's really, really easy to circumvent if you're at all technical. All you have to do is mirror a DNS server and run it locally before Saturday and you'll be fine. You can grab all the data from any of those DNS servers linked in the pastebin right now, copy it into your own server, and you won't even notice if it actually works.

If there were only 13 DNS servers in the entire world, that might actually work, but there aren't. Pretty much every ISP runs it's own DNS server, so FAIL!

Hell if shutting down the internet for a few days actually stopped bs like SOPA I'd be in full support of such an action. Don't think it will though, money hungry idiots will always be money hungry idiots and I doubt even if the entire internet was down for a week would they change their stubborn ways.

Well, I guess this is the motivation I need to get some actual work done, or just play something that doesn't require the internet.

Hello Roller Coaster Tycoon!
Doesn't that require a Steam connection?

Captcha: The all-new Chevy Sonic

Apparently the captcha won't accept "The all-new Chevy Shitbox". I think mods need to fix this.
That's about the only Captcha I ever get and one little spelling error means I have to re-enter it. It may help prevent spambots, but when it's the only Captcha you get it gets annoying extremely fast. I hope the mods fix it too.

Honestly, anyone who is taking this seriously should be ashamed of themselves. And did no one tell these idiots the story of "the boy who cried wolf?" The more they do this the more no one cares and the more any news associated with the the Anonymous group just becomes a big joke.

Dear Anonymous,

Please, do not do this. The internet is used by much more then just greedy bankers and stupid politicians. It's used by everyone, all over the world for various reasons.

People use it to talk to their love ones on the other side of the planet. I have family in another country, who I talk to through facebook. Protests and important events are done through social media sites. Students use websites that test their skills. Teachers put homework on blogs. Doctors, business owners, and just about every other profession, use the internet and their own website, to communicate and help the outside world. Everyone uses the internet, and if the internet "stops. the world stops. Even if it means someone can't get to a website they NEED.

I do not like SOPA. Not even one little bit. But SOPA, and bills like it, despite everything wrong with them, was originally about trying to stop people from abusing the power of the internet. And that's exactly what this would be seen as--- abuse of power. The blackout that so many people supported was a choice. People chose to shut down their websites. You would be FORCING THEM. This is against the very principals you are fighting for. This will not bring SOPA down, or bring the masses to your side. You would only be seen as a tyrant, and a hypocrite. Not a freedom fighter. Even now, I can see that anyone who is taking your threat seriously, is seeing that you would only make the problem worse.

I am not threatening you in any way. I wouldn't' be able to even if i wanted. I am simply warning you and asking you politely: Please don't do this. You're not helping anyone. You're only going to cause more pain to the masses that need the internet you are trying to help. And you're making it worse for all of us.

Sincerely,
Tegan Dumpleton aka SlugLady28

(course, this might just be an April Fools joke. In that case, disregard the above message)

I'm sure those servers are VERY well protected, the likelihood of such a plan succeeding is close to nil. I hope it does, though, it might send technologically illiterate people a message about how vulnerable this precious resource is.

... This is a terrible idea. I hope they won't actually try to do this. All they'll succeed in doing is making their side look bad and getting the politicians to wildly wave their arms about and go "See! This is why we need to censor the Internet!" Besides, can it actually be done?

I dont know if i should be upset or meh-ing this. Sure the blackout might actually get people who support SOPA get a taste of their own medicine, and realize what they have done... but couldn't they just done it in a way that does not inconvnience everyone?

Im just hoping i would be away during those times.
