No Zelda game beats Majora's Mask imo.
In my book, every Zelda game I played is better than Majora's Mask. The three day time mechanic killed the game for me. Phantom Hourglass was only slightly better because the time mechanic was left in that one temple. Games that have unreasonable time mechanics like MM and PH are just stupid, it is an idiotic way to add difficulty and it removes the whole relaxation and exploration aspect of such games.
Such mechanics should only be extra side things for people to do if they want to add the difficulty. There should be a normal mode for people that want to play a proper and normal game. Normal mode for MM would be that it would just say that the moon is crashing, but I can take all the time in the world I need to beat the game, also giving me the time to experiment, explore, and mess around as I like to do in Zelda games.
Like how they put in an infinite time mode in Dead Rising, though they crapped on that by making it only available once you beat that timed crap part, though of course for me that never happened, because games that game-wise unnaturally rush me, are unplayable.
For me, in the console sector, nothing beats Wind Waker(the first console Zelda that I beat, because the story held my attention, it was actually interesting and new, instead of "just" Ganon has captured Zelda.), in the handheld sector, nothing beats Oracle of Ages/Oracle of Seasons.
