Around 2:30 AM NZ Time (11:30PM in Japan), I was chatting with my Girlfriend over in Japan, she told me that another quake just happened nearby UPDATE: at Miyagi prefecture (nearby Sendai city). According to her another Tsunami Warning has taken place.

I was quite shocked to be honest, as all she wrote all of a sudden was just "NICK!!! OMG!!! OI!!!"

2:43 AM NZ time (11:43PM Japan)her MSN suddenly disconnects... I hope its just signal interference.

She lives at Sapporo, Hokkaido. I hope she's safe. She said it probably came from the same place as before.

Thought at least some people should know, I will appreciate any news I can get my hands on.

Thanks !!

Edit: I just received an e-mail (TXT message), apparently its just signal so I hope she's safe, not looking forward to a downed internet for days again. The quake turned out to be a 7.4 In magnitude, 40Km off the coast of Miyagi Prefecture.

Any news ? How did you get the 7.4 number?

Not sure how big, but she was in Sapporo and she could felt it all the way there. Doesn't seem to be the epicenter though. Apparently it happened twice, but its probably aftershock...

Well... At least its not as bad as last time. I still hope people can get to higher grounds on time just in case though.

Yeah, it's not in Tokyo. Tokyo won't even be affected by the tsunami. The epicenter was 40 km off the coast of Miyagi prefecture, near Sendai city, of course, the same region that was hit the worst in the earthquake 3 weeks ago. The entire northeast coast is under a tsunami warning with Miyagi under a higher alert. On top of the fact that it's in the same area as last time (to a scary degree), it's at night when the majority of Japanese are in bed. At least the fact that it's in the same area means that those who lost their homes in the previous tsunami are already staying in a safe area. This is likely a particularly strong aftershock from the previous quake. A quake as strong as the previous one was likely to produce strong aftershocks even this long afterwards.

P.S. If anyone is concerned about further damage to the Fukushima reactors, there were at least no injuries to workers in the area.
