If you don't own any pets or have any children, you can get a real shallow tray, like the lid of a jar, and pour some antifreeze in it. Antifreeze smells sweet, but its very toxic.
DO NOT DO IF YOU HAVE ANY PETS OR YOUNG CHILDREN. Seriously, the stuff is very bad for the body.
It won't kill the queen (being that she won't actually get any antifreeze), but hopefully, you'll be able to kill enough workers to starve off the nest.
