So I just finished the season 2 finale for the show (which I was not expecting, there was only subtle buildup to it), and man, it was great!

<spoiler= Summary. Spoilers, obviously>Ahsoka, Ezra, and Kanan go to the Sith planet Malachor, where they find a creepy ass Sith temple full of bodies of Jedi and Sith, weird ashy statues like the ones you would find in Pompeii. Sith mind bomb anyone? So they encounter another Inquisitor, the Eighth Brother, who is hunting Maul. Yes, Darth Maul. Maul manipulates Ezra, turning him into a pseudo-apprentice. Maul helps Ezra find a Sith holocron, which turns out to be a key for the temple, which also turns out to be a battlestation of some kind. In a fight to get to the top of temple where it can be activated, Maul kills two of the Inquisitors, the Fifth Brother and the Seventh Sister. The Eighth Brother supposedly falls to his death, but so did Maul and he's alive. And the most important change: Kanan is now blind! When Maul turns on the Jedi (he was pretending to be on their side), he slashes Kanan's eyes out. Kanan fumbles around and gets a helmet off a dead Jedi, and beats Maul despite his blindness. Then bloody Darth Vader comes into the fray, and has an epic battle with Ahsoka. She slices off his breather, and sees his face and hears his voice, and knows that her old master has gone to the dark side.

It ends with Ahsoka's fate unknown, as the other Jedi were forced to leave her behind. Maul is flying off enraged by temple's destruction (he was to use to get his revenge on the Emperor), and Vader is battle damaged but alive, seemingly alone on Malachor.

Kanan and Ezra return to the Rebel base, with Kanan looking full on General Kota. Everyone is depressed by Kanan's injuries, and Ahsoka's absence (especially Rex).

The last scene is Ezra meditating on the Sith holocron, and he somehow manages to open it. Keep in mind, during the entire two episodes (yeah, the finale is split in two) they constantly emphasized how the holocron could only be opened by a Sith- or someone thinking like a Sith

To explain the finale without spoilers is impossible, but I can certainly describe it.

The world of Malachor is amazingly detailed, and a slap on the face to those who kept complaining that they kept going back to Lothal. There is a lot to infer about the planet, such as the bodies strewed around and the odd shiny surface. The music and sound effects were stellar, the new lightsabers have awesome sounds, and the when someone uses the Force in a dark side way, there is a different sound effect, like a tiger roaring. The music is perfect, shifting from creepy to frantic to classic Star Wars.

The only thing that the episode does not have that the Clone Wars did is the high quality of fight animation. While it has as much detail and thought put into it as the Clone Wars, the fights are never prolonged and are a lot slower in action.

All in all, this was a perfect season finale. The show's villains were defeated, yet the heroes still lost. There are enough loose ends to tide fans over to the next season, and yet enough closure as well.

For those who have been keeping up with Rebels, how did you find the finale? How do you think things will go down in Season 3?

Oh! Me, me! I watched the season finale (raises hand and waves like a little kid)!

I enjoyed it and wish more episodes of Rebels were up to this level. Too often the show feels a bit..scatter-brained, although it has been getting better lately. They always seem to be able to laser-focus the show when the finales begin.

And since you made it clear that this is the seasons finale in the title, I'm not bothering with spoiler tags.

I love that Maul's first meeting with Ezra was a mirror of Luke meeting Yoda, almost down to even the dialogue. Maul has a cane, pretends to be useless and helpless--Ezra even says, "I doubt you can help me"--but then goes on to reveal that he is someone of great power. I also loved that the Inquisitors were no match for him. When he had the Seventh Sister pinned, I didn't think he'd cut her down. I mean, I know that's what Maul would do, but I didn't think they'd let him. But nope, she's toast. The only weird thing is that he threw his lightsaber to do it. I think he should have just walked up to her, smiled, and then sliced her open.

I'm think the Eight Brother (had no idea that was his name) is toast too, if only because of his scream and the fact that he was so far away when he fell. That scream was a terror scream, not a frustrating or surprised scream. And unlike Maul and Ahsoka, both of who were close to the temple and just fell to another level, he was far away from it, which means he's going all the way to the ground.

And that battle between Vader and Ahsoka? Perfect. Wish it could have gone on longer, but it was still amazing. And I loved how, when Ezra did the cliche "I'm not afraid of you!" Vader just looked at him and said, "Then you will die braver than most." Talk about being a bad ass, because the look on Ezra's face is one of, 'Oh crap I'm dead'.

I'm curious to see if they're going to keep Kana blind, or if they're going to fix his eyes, either by having them heal or giving him implants.

Finally, you forgot to mention the most important part of the ending--we saw that figure walking into the shadows at the ruined temple. We know it's not Vader because we saw him, and it's not Maul either. That either leaves Ahsoka (which is what I think they want fans to believe), the Eight Brother, or someone new.

You should read this to get Dave Filoni's take on the can of worms he opened. He knows full well that he is not going to get a moment's peace now until we find out what happened for sure:

I did-

First thing first, the Inquisiter using their lightsaber as propeller was funny and silly to look at! It kinda remind me of Inspector Gadget.

Having Maul citing some of the Sith Oath well Code was awesome (through passion I gain strength and my chains are broken).

Seeing the Inqister deaths was awesome eventhought they didn't strike the blow well except for the seventh brother (who killed him?). They had it coming for being a thorn to their sides!

Also Kanen wearing the sentiel helmet was cool too. Make me think if that was to become his fate.

I see Ahsoka fate as a win win. Before the episode aired, I know she HAD to died! I mean she no longer the main character and has the sad fate for not being the actual episode 4-6 movies (yes this apply to Kanen and Erza too, see last paragraph below). I also knew she has a fanbase who obviously want her to lived. To make her fate unclear was the best moves for leave the viewer decide what happeend to her. Granted if she did lived, it will be a sad fate for her as I would see her the new "old master" unless she found the inquister TIE Fighter (there were three of them and Maul took one).

The only thing I hated with the finals was the last scene. It was rush and it had BOOMING music!

Overall I liked season 2 alot more than 1 since it had less silly episodes (like the stealing the TIE figher or the Lando one). I liked it for having those character spotlight episode eventhought I didn't like them turning the A Wing pliots as the red coat/ expendable.

It starting to look like my mate theory is becoming real. He believe Erza will fall to the dark side but Kanen will execute him but by doing so he will lose the force (I mean if any of of the two were still around, they would had train Luke when the movies came around).

Kanan defeating Maul while blind was awesome. Cruel, wrathful Maul defeated by serene, focused Kanan is a real slap in the face to the Sith ideology, which is always a good thing to see in Star Wars. Kanan is shaping up to be one of my favorite Jedi.

Would have been nice to know exactly how Maul got stuck on Malachor since we last saw him as Palpatine's prisoner, but maybe it'll be covered in a comic or book or something.

I knew Ahsoka was going to die, it was pretty unavoidable once she learned who Vader was. Seeing the slightly sad look on Anakin's face before moving in for the kill was a nice touch. But I'm pretty sure she's dead; Vader wouldn't allow her to live and she wouldn't just let him walk away. The scene of her walking deeper into the temple seemed to me to be symbolic of her death, rather than hinting at her being alive.

We now have four dead inquisitors, and I think only three remain. Next season, three inquisitors at once?

Yo... This episode had me on the edge of my seat... I expecting a body count, but not THAT many bodies! Holy shit!

Other than that, the battle between Asoka and "Vader" was perfect and gave me that feeling that any prequel-eque content should deliver: Satisfaction...

Also Kanen and Hera should just kiss already. They're bordering Mulder and Scully in terms of UST at this point.
Now, I can't wait until they have a kid, give said kid away, and then occasionally reference said kid afterwards... (Too soon?)

If they do keep him blind, major kudos to them. I was expecting eye-patch Kanan, not blind Kanan.

As for the second, yeah I did forget that. But what do you think the owl thing is supposed to be?

Not sure if you are being serious, but human phalli and Twilek vajayjays don't match apparently. Unless the writing team decides to do away with that particular part of canon (still not sure if the Twilek children of Cut Lequane, the deserter clone trooper, are adopted or half breeds).

There's a great quote in one of the Rogue Squadron books that deals with that exact thing. Gavin said it about his Bothan girlfriend, Asyr when asked about the two of them having kids. "Well, the parts line up fine as far as I'm concerned, but things don't connect that well on a cellular level, I guess."
So yeah, odds are Cut's kids are adopted.

As for that owl thing, I have no idea. They're clearly playing at something with it, since it was in the previous episode on the base, but as for what? Perhaps a Force creature.

Darth Vader was great as always.
Not gonna bother with a spoiler tag given how far down this is and given the thread title.

I can't be the only one who enjoys that they aren't fucking around with Vader. They make him legitimately menacing because you know everyone who goes up against him will lose. And I'm glad they aren't handling how they handled Grievous in Clone Wars. I liked how they handled him, just glad it isn't a repeat.

More on topic: I enjoyed it a lot. I recall someone saying a while ago that Maul, if brought back would likely be some sort of x-factor because he has no allegiance to any side, however simply hates the Empire. Granted now as far as I can tell he hates pretty much everyone. Which will be pretty neat to see him be a third party given we've seen just how cunning he is when he brought entire crime syndicates and a planet to it's knees through deception.

For the next season I'm really, really hoping we get to see some more story lines with Rex as there's a lot they can still explore with him. I'd really, really like to see him encounter a clone (possibly Cody) who's loyal to the Empire and watch the ideologies clash. Also I'd like to see more of Kallus. After that arc with him and Zeb he's shaping up to be a really interesting character. Really character development in general is very well done here now that things are becoming more focused.

Like I noticed with Clone Wars, these shows start off lighthearted for a couple of seasons or so, then get way more mature with longer story arc's.

Remember that time he got his ass handed to him by Gungans? Like... they fucking ripped off Grevious' arms or something. I wonder how egotistical George Lucas has to be to keep trying to make Gungans look cool.

On Vader, while I always thought that they made him too tall, and therefore too thin, every fight against him is like David and Goliath. Except Goliath is sort of... graceful? at the same time. The way he just swings his saber in a long powerful arc makes you think Ahsoka could make short work of him, but he deceptively fast.
