So Apple's stock rating soared the other day, which inflated their already huge cash reserves to surpass both Google and Microsoft put together.

In a sense, good for them. In another sense, it's kind of ironic that they are worth more than the company they owe their continued existence to and that they will never contribute to the tech industry as much as those two companies they are worth more than together.

So what are your thoughts?

So are they still pretending to be underdogs?

Fight against the big bad Microsoft corporation and stick it to the man by supporting our corporation which is actually larger and more powerful than them, but we're not evil, because look how friendly our products are!

It's a bubble.

Apple still have a minority share in their major markets, and the only thing they have going for them is everybody thinking that apple products are supercool, which won't last. For a short-term investment they're relatively good, but Google is the company of the future.

Strange thing is, none of my realatives or friends own any Apple products :p
Aside from the old iPhone 3 that my brother bought and is now being used by my technologically challenged mother who is only using it because her old phone broke, it's the same in my house. Me and my dad are both on the same side when it comes to Apple, why buy their shit for twice as much as someone elses product without all the restrictions?

Also, I agree with this guy. Google will be around forever and is far more robust as a company. Same with Microsoft.

Funny, I said that nearly a decade ago, yet here we are, with "people thinking that apple products are supercool" more than ever.

Sure, they can pretend to be underdogs. They have pretended to be innovative for years when they're just putting a fruit on products that already existed in some form already.

There was this dude who sat next to me in class, who showed me his dream set-up for a mac.

Fun fact: it cost 14,6 thousand dollars.

You could buy a goddamn car + 2 better PCs for that money.

all i can say is that it's a shame that selling the same overpriced products year after year with minor changes is such a successful business strategy...

What gets me is that they're sitting on like 100 billion dollars doing nothing. "Just in case" money. If it were Bill Gates, he would've donated the money to cancer research. And people will still think he's some money hungry ass.

While I agree that it's good to have alternatives in the market to avoid companies like Microsoft from having a monopoly, the success of Apple represents something that I loathe about people.

Now I work in electronics retail. Too often do I see children begging their parents for a fucking iPod or iPad. Their parents always come up to me asking questions. My first question is always directed at the kid "Why do you want an iPod/pad?". Answer EVERY SINGLE TIME "Play games and apps". I even ask if the kid has a DS, they usually do, and they want ANOTHER piece of shit to play games on. 9 times out of 10, you cannot change their minds. You could tell them that it's radioactive and would release flesh eating beetles into your house that would devour you while you sleep, and they would still insist on getting one.

On top of that, most of the people I've met while working ONLY know of Apple, never the other alternative companies. They come in thinking that they're buying a quality product not knowing that there are several other manufacturers who offer the same product for less with the same features, or more. This can be applied specifically to tablets. People think iPads are the only ones out there. Tablets like the Asus Transformer Primes are miles better than the iPad and even cost the same money for twice the memory. But these people are surprised when I tell them there are others that are better.

I wont get into the lies and ignorance regarding their computers and software being "immune to viruses".

In short, I loathe the ignorance. Self entitled spoiled kids who just want a pricey toy, parents who are stupid enough to cave in and people who are too lazy or ignorant to do any research and will just allow a TV ad tell them what to do.

14.6? As in 14,600 dollars (Fourteen thousand, six hundred dollars)? Is he stupid? And I bet that if you built the same PC, it would cost $1200 or less. (Probably not since I don't know what components this guy wanted, but you should get my point).

Never liked Apple products much, never will. More of a Google and Microsoft person. Funny thing is: My school district holds a lot of fundraisers to keep a lot of the classes they have at school running. Interesting fact, all of the computers they use at school are brand new Mac COMPUTERS. Not even laptops, just flat out computers. They have 3 rooms at our school which are full of them, and they give our teachers apple laptops. And they complain about not having enough money. Bull. Shit.

That's cool, I really do like my Macbook Pro for personal use. It's quick, easy, and perfectly portable for college. Whenever I need to use Windows 7, I just use Boot Camp so... yeah, best of both worlds I suppose.

Yep, 14.600 dollars.

I did the math and my computer was about half as good as the proposed rig, yet it only cost 729 dollars.
