^^The Amiga was a good machine which is why I said "epic" fail, in contrast to the Timex Sinclair which would be just a fail. While it shined in isolated uses, as I recall they made Babylon 5 on the Amiga, early episodes anyway, overall it was riding on the Mac's coattails.

****

Okay I have one last thing to say and then adios amigos I'll see you all on other treads:

That keyboard and mouse that PC gamers love so much... ***STEVE JOBS!!***

(Okay it was probably Xerox that invented that too but again, he brought it to personal computing way before any competitor did. It was he that saw its widespread potential.)

Dear Mr Jobs.

My Eee PC does everything and more than your i-pad, and it cost a whole lot less...

If you make a product like that, you want to encourage other company's to have ready made products that work with it. USB ports where a no brainier, yet where are they? and you can't get around the web without flash, as every second site uses it in one way or another.

Apple must learn to work with other corporations. Isolating its self will only do harm.

Apple taking aim at a rival company using heavy-handed demonization? I haven't seen that before.

And how exactly is Google trying to kill the iPhone? This is the first I've ever head of that theory.

I've never owned an Apple product until I bought my Gf an iPod Nano for xmas, so she gave me her old iPod.

The reason I'd not been interested in an Apple MP3 player is because Apple has always came off as elitist to me. Articles like this just confirm this point of view for me.

Side note:
I decided to use my Gf's old iPod (as my MP3 player was on its last legs)
Any way, I had to set up my old PC with XP installed, as apple doesnt support Linux, and apparently (according to the Ubuntu community) as Apple keeps updating its software so often, no music apps created for linux to interface with an iPod work anymore.
Use sharepod (just google it). Just d/l to your ipod and use that instead of iTunes. I refuse to put that garbage on my PC.

Google's new Android/Droid phones for Sprint and Verizon. Similar to the iPhone, but the Droid can multitask its apps.

The meaningless iPad and this statement really only goes to enforce my opinion of Apple.
Apple is a company that only wants to control our habits, and put way to many barriers on their products for them to be of any interest to me.

Sure the iPhone is pretty to look at, but what have it really given us? How is it different from any normal phone? Other than having a touch screen? Well nothing... hell the first iPhone had less functions than any other phone at the time of release.

Then Apple herald themselves as a great innovator for introducing products with the same functions as any normal phone.

I will admit apps seem cool, but I also have a feeling they are pushing apps and silly games on us just to enforce their control over you.

Just my opinion though.

I feel like people forget that once upon a time Apple was given a little extra funding boost by Microsoft so they could stay afloat. Due to this Apple was able to pull themselves together and now as others mentioned attempt to control every corner of the electronics market. If I was Google, Adobe, Sony, or any other large electronics company I'd tell Apple to screw off and go do my own thing and not let them get any rewards from my work. Steve Jobs is probably one of my most hated people in the industry.
Yeah, but Microsoft boosted Apple because they needed to have "competition" so they wouldn't be hit with antitrust suits, and Apple tanked when Steve Jobs wasn't working there--when they brought him back, he also ended up bringing Apple back into profitability.

Say what you will about Steve Jobs, you have to give credit where credit is due--the Apple turnaround is amazing, and it's all due to him.

Unfortunately every Google search I did for Sharepod said it wasn't Linux compatible.
Although many of the searches did suggest Gtkpod for Linux, so I'll give that a try.
Cheers for motivating me to look a bit further

OK, fine, I'm just saying, both Microsoft and Apple both took ideas from it. And computers would have gotten smaller regardless. With the GUI, no matter what, it will have happened. With or without Steve. Which isn't to say he did nothing impressive, its just that I find that point a little... well, overused, considering it was happening anyway. He's just the face in front of it all.
Yes, fine, my last word is: Microsoft gave us Windows only when they started losing serious market share to Apple. You probably recall the legal battle that ensued. Micro$oft prevailed. Today they rule the PC world with Windows 7 (which is the first Windows version I like better than the Mac OS), and Apple's most exciting product is the iPhone.
Aaaaand then you became a joke. One that didn't make me laugh. Go and study comedy (legitimate stuff! Ireland and Canada are your best bets. Nothing from America.) and then get back to me.

OT - Yeah... Steve Jobs is a scary, scary evil dude. Scary and evil like a Bond villain. Or Lex Luthor. I could see Steve Jobs trying to irradiate half of America so he can buy it as cheap real estate.

"Lazy developers", eh? My computer has never ever crashed because of Flash apps or videos or anything. But that may be because i run Windows XP, and Adobe is obviously on Microsoft's payroll, the bastards!
Dude trust me, Flash is by far the largest cause of browser crashes on Mac. It also uses ludicrous amounts of CPU compared to the Windows version (esp. when playing video). Apparently the Linux plugin is worse. Anyway, as someone who regularly uses most of Adobe's CS4 on Mac and PC, I have to say every one of those apps is full of bloat.
The Windows plugin (at least the every-browser-except-IE plugin) isn't particularly hot either. My standard "my PC is running too slowly!" resolution is to End Process on the Flash plugin (in Chrome), or use FlashBlock (in Firefox). And on my old PC, the Flash plugin was the primary reason that a resume-from-hibernate took several minutes (it insisted on "catching up" on all the time it missed while the PC was off, resulting in a pegged 100% CPU). The IE version is apparently a bit better behaved. Though both have caused browser crashes sometimes anyway.

Well apple has never been good at compatibility with other companies. I wouldn't call adobe lazy... its apple whose too lazy to put compatibility into their software. And i have never had any issue with flash on my PC (be it 98, xp, vista or 7), but when using a mac at work and booting up safari... well it takes a few tries to get anything done :(

As for the ipad... congratulations apple, once again you've innovated something useless
(http://www.apple.com/magicmouse/ as if having a touch-pad on laptops wasn't bad enough)

He's so far up his own ass some times. Actually most of the time. He lost out to Microsoft so now he's going for Adobe and Google? Tactical fail.

Yo Stevie, we're really happy for you, and we're gonna let you finish, but Itunes was one of the most incompatible pieces of software of all time.

...I suck at this meme stuff. Let me say it clearly.

Look, I haven't had a single problem with Flash, but Itunes? Talk about a headache. Incompatible with everything except Istuff, slow, unorganized, irritating... I mean, yeah, the IPOD was cool, but Itunes was a sack of crap. You shouldn't talk smack until you've fixed your own problems, and I still resent not being able to replace my own batteries in my devices. Not to mention the Ipad is looking to be Apple's first solid flop in a long time.

When I read the "Don't be evil is bullshit" I was hoping Jobs would be referencing the conspiracy theories about Google using all your personal data for ... some nefarious purpose (which I have now seen treated as solid fact by the entire userbase of at least two major tech sites), but no. No elaboration at all; just a hint that he's pissed that other companies actually realized the iPhone's interface was a good enough idea to standardize. That's the thing with good ideas, Steve. They tend to catch on.

Also, HTML 5 is going to kill Flash? Um, sorry, last time I checked, I can't play games or watch Homestar Runner cartoons with raw HTML 5. Granted, he's probably talking about video, and I'll give him that, but there's more to Flash than powering sucky video players. And someone who's supposed to be running a technology company should know stuff like that.

Apple makes products that are proprietary. They lock you in to only their software (which is
more expensive). I don't care for their stuff, really.

In all fairness there was that "Faulty update of Flash caused a load of security breaches" thing
