Wow, Monkey Island is on the list because it realisticly represents the architecture of the time period. That's quite something for a game with vending machines and 'shoddy 17th century electrical wiring'.

Definitely. As far as game architecture goes...that was seriously the only moment where I felt I was truly in a weird, alien environment, yet still knew where to go and how to move. That's got to be hard to pull off. Everything felt so disjointed and piecemeal, yet seamless and structured at the same time.
They did good with WoW...some of the buildings there are amazing. But HL kicks the crap out of the structures in Halo (with the exception, perhaps, of the halo ring itself. It IS pretty cool to see.) Not to mention some of the old school games....those are just plain wtf.
