Are Gears of War and Call of Duty secretly political satire?

Never played Gears but I do not believe Call of Duty is satire.

It's simply a messy bunch of plot-holes in the middle of a story that doesn't know if it's supposed to be serious or a joke.

Gears isn't satire, but it definately isn't as serious as it makes itself out to be from the commercials.

If so they are not doing a good job. I only played the first of both neither of them left a good enough impact on me to get the sequels. I can't even remember if they were fun so I sure as hell can't remember the story of them. And knowing what is going on is important to a satire.

Firstly, Gears of war. It's mostly based off of wh40k. for what we see of it COG acts almost exactly like the imperium of man, they've even got similar weapons and tactics, and the locust are just orks of a different color.

COD would fit all your points, except for the fact that shepherd is played as a traitor, the only reason he shoots roach and ghost is so he would be established as such.

In Halo for instance, I doubt many people could pick out the biblical symbolism that is widespread in the series. Many are ignorant of the Ayn Rand influences in the antagonist of the award winning Bioshock. How about the anti-war messages in the Metal Gear Solid series?

Just saying, you'd have to be pretty dense to not see any of the stuff. The anti-war messages in MGS were about as subtle as a fireworks display. The only way you'd *not* be able to put two and two together is if you didn't have any working knowledge on the symbolism subject matter (Bible, Ayn Rand, War Politics) which doesn't mean that the games were subtle but rather the player's lack of education.

No, the hyper violent fascism is actually played straight, without any idea that it's comical. Which is why the games get so much hate despite being very well polished products.

I am with you you have to be really dense not to pick up on the biblical stuff in halo I only played halo at a friends house and I saw most of if. As for metal gear the Anti war thing is there is it's not hidden, hell it's a game that if you don't kill anyone you get a better score. Yeah you would have to have no knowledge of the subject matter not to pick up on most of these things.

Honestly, the writing in these games is pretty bland as is, so I seriously doubt that there is any hidden message/major theme being explored in them. The last game I thought to actually contain any level of depth would have had to have been Red Dead Redemption - which was, in all respects, a brilliant game.
