So Gen 9 PS5 and XBox Series X are now available for purchase. I look forward to hearing a lot about how well they're working out. Do they deliver as promised, etc.

But, this means, I think, that we can start our retrospectives on Gen 8. Too early?

If not too early, would people want a single thread or a separate on each separate big 3 consoles? Even PC advances 2013 to 2020?

Do people expect Switch to stick around for another seven years? If not, they should probably including Nintendo in the same generations as Sony and MS.

I mean the 3DS was around for like 14 years. So if they follow on that with this universal platform, I could see the Switch being around for the long haul. With perhaps upgraded versions in another year or two.

Ten years of Switch? 2017 to 2027? Doubt it. People are gonna want better graphics at some points. A handheld only system is one thing.

That;s why I said, upgraded. They released the 3ds XL and the New 3DS both of which featured more powerful hardware inside while keeping the same framwork.

There were already rumors of a more powerful switch coming out back in 2018 but for whatever reason it never did, though we did get the LIte. So I imagine that Nintendo might be waiting for this generation to full start and see where things end up before making hardward improvements to an upgrades.

First, let me note to my deep shame and regret... the picture I posted above includes an OUYA.
I think Nintendo beat Sony and MS to the punch with Gen 8: The Wii U coming out in 2012, the Xbox 1 and PS4 2013. Then the Switch beat Series X and PS5. I consider it to be the first Gen 9 console. I venture to think before there is, if ever, a PS6, we will get the next gen of Switch or whatever they'll call it.
EDIT:

I'd be interested in someone creating another thread (I talk too much and should give others a turn) talking about where things are headed for gamers. Some thought Gen 7 would be it. I'm thinking Gen 9 will be worth while. Gen 10 for Nintendo will likely provide better experiences, better graphics, with flexibility being huge. Maybe even going 100% licensing to Xbox and our cell phones to be projected/mirrored onto TV sets.
