Are there any games you play just for the soundtrack?

I love Kingdom Hearts for a lot of things, but the Traverse Town soundtrack feels like home to me.

Final Fantasy VII. I hate turn-based, random-encounter RPGs but Nobuo Uematsu is one of my top 5 favourite musicians of all time. The story and world of FF7 are pretty cool too but I just haaaaate the gameplay.

Rez/Child of Eden
Pokemon[footnote]Talk Hoenn to me![/footnote]
Crazy Taxi
Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep
Tony Hawk's Underground
Persona 3 [FES]
Beyblade VForce: Ultimate Blader Jam
Just Dance
Sonic 06

I'm pretty sure they're others... But, those were the ones that really came to my head right now...

Closest I probably come is Wizardry 8. I mean, I love the whole game, but hearing the character creation music again, and the underground theme, and Marten's Bluff, and...well, this.

I considered including Audiosurf, but I left it off because my music is why I play it, whereas with Rockband and Guitar Hero, I play it because of their music. If that makes sense to you.

I like to start up Adventure Time: Hey Ice King! Why'd You Steal Our Garbage? on my 3DS just to hear the title screen song every now and then.
I used to replay the first two Katamari games just to hear specific tracks. And back in the day I used to play parts of Final Fantasy 3/6 on the SNES just to hear specific tracks. In fact that's my first game soundtrack that I owned because I loved the music so much.

Makes sense, but that was the joke. If you look at it the right way, Audiosurf is every soundtrack!

I'm not sure. Music might be a subsconscious force whenever I go back to an old favorite game. I'm thinking in terms of Okami, or Dragon Quest VIII, or Kingdom Hearts, or Prince of Persia: Sands of Time. Sometimes I find myself humming a certain song or track and thinking "Man, I wish I was playing that game now". But again, it's only a small part of what gets me to replay a game.

Surprised this hasn't been mentioned yet, Transistor.

The soundtrack of that game was extremely core to the entire experience, as well as just being excellent in general.

Honorable mentions to stuff like Tony Hawk and GTA, where the music adds immensely to the atmoshpere.

On the subject of shocked it wasn't mentioned, Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. There are 4-5 standout tracks, and even the more "ambient" level tracks are fun.

I wouldn't say it's the only reason I play it, but I will say the music of Bastion compelled me to replay it almost immediately after finishing it for the first time.

I know I would have never replayed Super Ghouls and Ghosts on the SNES if it wasn't for the amazing soundtrack. It's easily better than the game itself.

Have not heard one level song from any game in the last 10 years or more that competes with this tune.

Not just for the soundtrack but games that are really good with a soundtrack I like I come back to excited to hear the music again. Mass Effect 2 and Max Payne 3 are good examples of this.

No.

What? Low content? Ugh, fine.

I actually turn off the background music in many games I play. At a conscious level, game music can be at best inoffensive for me, though I am sure it can do wonders on a subconscious level to set mood and tone.

My biggest annoyance about music in games is the "Uh oh, there are enemies around" music that the game switches to when, you guessed it, hostiles be about. It essentially becomes a radar in games that don't/shouldn't have a radar minimap thing.

Hotline Miami. This game without its godlike soundtrack would've been a piece of shit.
I must agree with this. I particularly enjoy the songs by MOON:

I must say, working in the lab with this playing really makes everything better.

There are a few games where I found myself getting pulled back into wanting to play them again thanks to the soundtrack. My IPOD has a "video game soundtracks" playlist, and hearing "Icarus" made me want to play through Deus Ex again, as did "Phoenix Rising" for God of War.

Na, I don't pay much attention to soundtrack in most games. Occasionally I'll start listening to it, as in really listing to it not just having it background thing that adds to atmosphere, and decide I like it and I have found new bands that way but that's about it. If I found a game with awesome music and not so awesome everything else I would probably just see if I can get the soundtrack somewhere or listen to it on-line.

The only reason? Nope, not a single one. I don't play games that suck for the soundtrack. If I like the soundtrack, I'll just listen to the soundtrack online without the annoyance of the game. :p
