This may seem as a unfair and harsh criticisim, but i've been revewing games recently, and just by going through the lists of games released this year, it seems Ubisoft in particular have been flooding the market with sequels
for example
Red Steel 2
Assassins Creed 2
Splinter Cell Conviction

I'm sure these games will probably be good, but maybe Ubisoft should stop playing it safe, and "wow" us with something new, like they did with Assassins Creed

It's a touch unfair, but only because you single out Ubisoft.

Loads of sequels have been made recently, and plenty more are in the works.

For a quick example, we have Starcraft 2 and Diablo 3.

I like the idea of sequels myself, you take the base of a great game(with flaws) be rid of the flaws and add new stuff. There you have a great game!

I think Ubisoft's taking a risk with Red Steel 2. Everyone knows the first one sucked, and I'm not sure how the new one will sell.
Oh, and OP, the title should be "Is Ubisoft Just Not Imaginative Enough?"

Ubisoft does not milk sequels any less than other big name game publishers. Hell Capcom is nearing the 20th iteration of some of their cashcows, and of course there's the big N and their flagship titles...

I have no idea what people have against sequels. I'm looking forward to the sequels. Yes, they shouldn't just milk their franchises again and again, but what law dictates they must come up with something new when they already have modern franchises that are fun and exciting.

They have that?

I bought one of them a few years ago and didn't like it as much as the one I bought a few years before that. (I think they were IV and III, I remember the newer one about Queen Isabella or something of the Gryphon clan of people and the older one having a campaign about a kick-ass barabarian named Waerjak or something again.)

No, all companies do this, not just Ubisoft. Look at EA Sports for the worst offender. And since Ubisoft are using new stuff and making a lot of changes in their sequels, or at least Assassin's Creed 2, then they're being a lot more imaginitive than most companies that make sequels are. I get the feeling you're singling them out, though I can't think why...

At least Ubisoft is on fairly low numbered sequels. I don't mind one or two good sequels to a good game, but when you get into Final Fantasy 201 and Mario 5000, you run into a problem. Ubisoft's not really making more or less sequels than other developers.

Meh
sure they do't have many games with huge numbers of sequels (splinter cell 5 is debateable)
but they have large number of games with sequels
