For those yet unaware Need for Speed Shift on Wikipedia [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Need_for_Speed:_Shift]

Need for Speed is the racing game that got me into racing games. It's the game that made me think cars were more than just a means to get from point A to point B.

Possible Upside

It's under development by Slightly Mad Studios a developer experienced in racing games, but a completely new developer in the NFS Franchise, which was predominantly developed by EA Blackbox in the past. This a possible upside because maybe a fresh outlook and approach is exactly what the franchise needs right now. Maybe EA Blackbox need a break. I mean, I've been wanting a cockpit cam for the longest time.

Possible Downside

Shift takes its place aiming at hardcore gamers and focusing on simulation racing rather than the arcade racing of previous titles in the series. It focuses on less on style and more on simulating the driver experience and is being described as a racing game built by racers for racers.
A fresh outlook is one thing, but NFS was always an arcade racer, even when it was imitating racing sims like Forza. That's what was always attractive about it; it's an accessible, multiplatform racer for those who weren't fanatics, for those who just wanted to play pretend. I was always good at NFS and I'm pretty damned skilled at more taxing racers like Forza, Gran Turismo and Project Gotham Racing, but NFS accepted me when I was still a n00b and brought that unseen potential out of me, like the master who believes unconditionally in his under performing students to the point where they start believing in themselves.

Anyway, just trying to turn it into a discussion- it is due for release this year.

Yawn. They tried to move away from the street racing with ProStreet and it failed. Undercover was a step in the right direction and now they've gone completely left field. Most Wanted was, and still is, the best.

Oh my god, haha.
I read the title as "Are you amped for this Not For Sale shit".
XD
As for me, I'm not big on racing games. Dirt was pretty cool for a while, but I'm an RPG guy myself.

ever sinse the undergrounds the series have just been getting worse and worse untill the point where i see a new release of need for speed and instantly say "thats going to be crap", maybe... MAYBE ill give this one a chance with it being new developers and all.

They hit the mark and more with undeground 1 and 2 so they need to stay in that area of play, this may bring them back up a little or just make them fail even more

NFS was the racing series that got me into racing games, but to be honest without a revamp I'd never play it again, modding up cars and sticking shiney objects on them just seems a bit childish to me now. On the other hand I have GRID and unless I hear that it's better than GRID i doubt I'll buy it.

in short, no. In long, noooooooooooooooooooooooooooo.

I like Burnout, NFS takes all the fun out of car games, why race when you can wreck things?

If NFS Shift doesn't restore my faith in the series than I will buy another...though I said that about Undercover, but hey I am all about second chances.

It's an interesting direction for the franchise. However, I think it needs a bit more of the classic NFS feel. They need to do three things: One, let you customize street cars to make them faster and cooler-looking; two, bring in some zany track designs and environments a la NFS3; three, incorporate cops somehow. Have plenty of circuit races, but if cop chases work well with a simulation driving model, have cop chases. Also, dump EA Trax, and get the NFS3 musicians to compose a new soundtrack for this game.

Most Wanted as probably the last good NFS game. I can see why they changed the formula though - Paradise practically owns the arcade free range racing thing now.

Hmm... im intrested but only coz i do like proper racing aswell as arcade.

Theres also something on wiki about NFS: World online which is supposed to be a racing MMO, now that would be interesting.

Yeah, it's an interesting move. I personally don't care much for NFS anymore. Don't get me wrong, Ive played a heap of them, and I have fond memories of the first couple, and most wanted. But I've got Burnout for Arcade racing (and it is a heap better IMO at that) and GRID or Forza for sim racing.
But that's just me. It could work...

I'm sure this will be mediocre. Underground 2 was the best game in the franchise and nothing will top it.

i would just write 'no' and move on but that would probably get me banned, so, i'll say 'no, racing games like Need for Speed aren't really my thing so i won't be rushing out to get t when it's released.'

No, I am not. I have my own car which I drive on a regular basis. I don't need to make my penis feel big by role-playing a modded out car and busting tunes out my pimp mobile.

Pass a driving test or play some decent games.
