Oh it was tabletop game? Well, then we celebrated it with a 6 hours Shadowrun 5th session very well i guess.
Just asking because I'm interested, not looking to derail the thread too much, but how do you like Shadowrun 5 so far?
I've almost finished the book, and so I've yet to play an actual game. The new rules look really great on paper, how do they hold up on the table?
Uhm, if you've played the 4th, you've played the 5th basically. It's more of an balance fix and an attempt to streamline hacking a little.
Sofar i like it, specially the new limit system manages to keep +20dice min/max chars in check a little bit. The priority system usually gives more well-rounded chars for beginners (expirienced players can still exploit the bejesus out of it".
Fighting goes faster, Hacking goes faster but with the downside that besides the decker/techno everyones Commlink is only a glorified smartphone anymore, since the only roles you're allowed to do without a deck is defending yourself and datasearch. Driving is a horrible mess, because as soon as you enter a combat scenario with a vehicle only a dedicated driver can do ANYTHING.
Example: I was sitting in my car at the docks, where we waited for someone to arrive. Long story short the shit began to hit the fan and suddenly we were being shot. I had already some stun damage from earlier and my car got hit by 1 salvo - now i only wanted to turn my car and drive away.
A 180° turn is either 1 or 2 and Docks give you +1, so you're already looking at a (3) with -2 + situational modifiers. And that's just turning a car. Btw, with Driving 1 + specialisation and an reaction of 6 i didn't manage to turn the car and then it got shot again. So i had to leave the car, beat every last enemy so we leave combat and finally i could drive away.
Main problem is: The numbers are way to high, in a real chase you're looking at 5+ needed succses easily and cars have a limit of their handling which is usually 3 or 4 -> You need a riggercontrol to be able to drive.
All in all, if you liked the 4th, you'll like the 5th same if not more. Now all we gotta do is to wait for the additional books
