At the very least it looks graphically optimized this time.

They'd have to tweak the hell out of the controls though, because that shit sucked in the first game. Also maybe not have the most generic horror aesthetic that looks like you've been digging in Silent Hill's dumpster.

Who knows, maybe it won't be garbage this time.

Fuck yeah, I'm really getting this game. I really enjoyed the first one. The first one indeed didn't have the best controls and it stuttered along with awkward animations and hit detection that was sometimes way off and gameplay situations not suited for the shitty camera and controls but when it worked it worked and for whatever reason I found the game really fun. Once you get around it's poor mechanical implementations the game really brought back that old survival horror atmosphere ie a tense affair that focuses on maintaining distance between you and your enemies instead of plowing through them. There was also a lot of variation in the levels so the game never became monotonous and I also had a lot of fun spotting all the horror movie references.

I won't say the first game was objectively 'great' but none the less I still had a great time playing it so if they iron out the kinks the second game could be(atleast on a mechanical level) much better. It will probably also make a difference that they no longer have to make concessions for a previous gen port.

No. The first game was utter crap so I'm wouldn't buy this even if it came with blowjobs from Jesus.

Probably, eventually...even though the first frustrated me to no end. This one looks like it fully embraces the false reality instead of pretending it's an intriguing mystery in a horror troping all over the place, and I do quite enjoy a bit of trippy mind fuckery in my entertainment. Will wait for it to hit a sale first.

I *haven't* seen any trailers and I don't really want to spoil the game for myself, because these twisted headfuck kind of games are best enjoyed with the least amount of info going in. And that's exactly what I expect this game to be, as long as it's by Shinji Mikami.

I enjoyed the first one quite a bit, just not quite enough to replay the whole thing. I liked it more than RE7 by a long shot anyway. The weapons were interesting, though a bit of a fumble to use. The bosses were excellent, though a little frustrating until you figure out what to do. There's not that much feedback, it's half puzzling and half fighting, and not really clearly indicated whether you're wasting effort and ammo or not. But still fun nonetheless, and I loved the design, setting and atmosphere. Few tropes in it, yes, but it still carried itself well with a blend of survival horror, action, and straight up weirdness.

If the trailers so far are looking better than the first, and they manage to improve on what was wrong with it, then I'll definitely be getting it, though maybe not at launch (only because I almost *never* buy anything at launch, on principle).

Meh I am usually not much of a horror game fan, but I played through the first one and felt it was a big fat "meh". It's story was shit, the level design sucked, the only thing that kept me playing was the combat was actually satisfying.

I will probably buy Evil Within 2, but not until it is WAY cheap on a Steam sale of something.

Sadly Mikami is only the producer of this game. It's directed by his non-Japanese protege. Part of the first game's appeal(and every Mikami game in general) is that it didn't took itself too seriously and had lots of unintended humor. They tried so hard to make this game 'scary' that it started to look like a parody of the horror genre(it literally checks every box) but the Japanese spin on it made it authentic. I hope they don't remove this silly aspect as it's the one thing that made the first game unique. Though, that dapper antagonist in the trailers look really ridiculous so no worries there. :p

Yeah, the thing I loved about TEW is that it mixed so many things really well that you somehow never got bored. Maybe not as tightly designed as most AAA games but way more entertaining.

Absolutely not. Got the first one for cheap last year, it's been a while since I played a game I hated quite as much as TEW. The camera angle alone made it nearly unplayable without even going into the ridiculous inventory limits and it being RE4 played straight.

Ordinarily I'd suggest "wait for the demo", but considering that the first game dropped its transmission from shifting gears so hard immediately after the part its demo covered....

God no. I found the first one to be completely unbearable, and beyond any kind of redemption. It's one of those games I'm willing to accept other people enjoyed, but I can't for the life of me see why, and I honestly don't care to.

I actually never played the first one. What was is like, other than Resident Evil 4?

I suppose if you want to compare it to RE4, I'd say it's pretty close, except that it pretty much fails everywhere RE4 succeeds. The controls are bad. Camera, bad. AI, inconsistent. Story, tone and general 'soul,' non-existent.

I suppose you could just say it was RE4, if the writers were phoning it in and the designers were drunk most of the time.

Might pick it up when it's selling for under $10 if I hear good things from people worth listening to.

Certainly not in any hurry.

I think he's only producing this one though.

Oh that's too bad, I would've thought he'd be writing this one too. Anyway, the story continues where the last one left off, so let's hope it manages to pull through with the same, well I enjoyed it. If the controls are better, and the AI a little more consistent so the stealth is more worth attempting, then that'll be a definite 'eventual' buy. And the camera could use some improvement. God, what were they thinking at launch before the first patch, the letterboxed widescreen and horrendous FOV made me sick in the first 5 minutes, and I have NEVER gotten sick from a game before. Well, maybe, if I was half drunk to begin with. Was glad they fixed that up almost immediately.

Whatever, just wash your hands.
I'm interested although the first one didn't do it for me, then again I only gave that one like 10 min before I was like nah. I don't even really remember why. But, I'm still working on divinity 2 and I have other games on my roster before this one, so I'll probably try it at some point, just not sure when.

It sure looks like it at first - Spanish dudes, angry farmers, creepy rural setting - but the controls and camera suck. Aiming narrows your field of vision to a ridiculous degree, and I swear there's some kind of delay between pressing 'fire' and actually firing your gun.
