I would have called the cops on him before it happened. Hell, just look at him!
It's not how he always looked. Here's another photo: http://newsone.com/files/2011/01/Jared-Lee-Loughner-in-Mar-007.jpg
...
He got plastic surgery to ugly-fy himself?
He had a horrific accident involving a nuclear reactor?
He had to get chemo?
...I'm out of explanations.

Everybody is looking for a reason as to why this guy did it. Most are trying to put a political reason behind it. You guys all think that people are now trying to blame video games. And some WILL try to blame video games (not as many as most here will think, but somebody most likely will). Some will try to blame the environment around him. Everybody is looking for a CAUSE.

But why can't we just accept this one simple fact: CRAZY PEOPLE DO CRAZY THINGS BECAUSE THEY ARE CRAZY! THAT'S ALL THE EXPLINATION NEEDED! HE'S BAT-SHIT NUTS!

I'd like to say that this is a fine example of how we should be alert to, and aware of, those who are around us... but would it have helped? I mean, he was presented a letter from his college (which he subsequently dropped out of) due to complaints from students and faculty saying they were afraid for their lives around him; there were numerous police calls to his home; he was even stopped by an Arizona wildlife officer on the day of the shooting... and from all of this, nothing happened. Nobody in a position of authority said "There's something seriously wrong with this guy; we should have him looked at for his own good". And if someone had done so, would there have been an outcry that the government was overstepping its bounds and ruining the life of someone who'd done no wrong? I find it likely.

The funny thing about freedom is that it has its own set of consequences. Sometimes we just have to realize that.

[small]Also, if "looks creepy" and "is good with firearms" were sufficient cause for imprisonment, I'd be making this post from a maximum-security penitentiary.[/small]

Jared Lee Loughner...made some pretty disturbing posts on a forum related to the game Earth Empires.
There's yer problem right there, BAN THIS SICK FILTH.

But for real, I would love to see someone blame this on video games, fingers crossed for Jack Thompson!

OT: Just looking at him gives me the chills, and those posts are completely unintelligible.

Well it's not like we don't get disturbed individuals in our little forum. Take a gander at this thread:

http://www.escapistmagazine.com/for...want-every-human-being-alive-dead-Even-myself

I read a few replies and all I feel is disgust that members of this forum believed they are qualified to help someone who is clearly disturbed by saying it is normal to think this way. They should be recommending that he seek professional help. Anyway, my 2 cents.

Why did someone count how many times he said 'CAN'T HOLD TERMINATION AGAINST FUTURE EMPLOYEE!'? It must've taken them a while.
Or they copy-pasted it in a Word document then did a word count on it.

OT:

While this isn't about the shooter, I wanna say this: Giffords got shot in the head and is still living, and is also recovering pretty well. Badass, and I hope she makes a full recovery.

Anyway, that guy does seem to be a crazy & creepy son-of-a-*****.

Why haven't they forced a mental examination on him before?
You'd be appaled at the way we handle our mentally ill...
My mother worked at an asylum for a while and its dreadful.

I mean, if someone did actually get him into some psychiatric help, who would make sure he takes his meds?

I just hope this "Earth Empires" community were blatantly unaccepting of some of his more insane comments- it wouldn't be good for gamers if they were to have taken him as some kinda joke.

And really, when you read a crazy person's rants, they really can sound so absurd that they're meant to be some kinda dark humor.
Or some kinda B-movie plot. "Ancient parasites from New Guinea are gonna infect the woooorld!" kinda stuff.

I dislike how much the news wants to tear into something as long as they can, as this guy they just want to search into his past as deep as humanly possible, and I wouldn't trust that all of it is true. Though they do it a lot to get numbers, I suppose, like the guy with the golden voice and how they're still following him closely and watching him as he got arrested for that argument and crap, and rehab, and such. News about an issue is important for the facts, but after that it just begins to get tedious, though I suppose it's just me who only needs the basic facts and not every detail to be satisfied.

Epic. Sorry, but that is something I can see some really bored troll on the Halo forums or whatnot doing.

Urgh... It creeps me out to hear about stuff like this. I can't comprehend the thought process of a crazy guy in any way and I'm not sure I want to.

Though saying that I can't comprehend the thought process of lots of people, like annoying parents that seem completely oblivious to regular logic >.>

Cue Jack Thompson rantings. And video games made me do it.
Nah, they went to his Youtube channel first, and Drowning Pool was copping some flack earlier. "Bodies" isn't exactly an encouraging title. :p

The alcohol was interesting. Most gals think if they get wasted and act like sluts they'll be safe around random strangers. Not saying it's justified, far from it. Just that it doesn't help their chances and gives the thing an excuse. Too bad the only people who say that are crazies.

That's one creepy ************. Sorry, but what else is there that I could say? He's clearly insane, and he managed to kill a number of people. The real question ought to be how somebody like him managed to get a hold on a gun...
Easy, because if the USA tried to limit guns there would be a flack storm like no other. For whatever the reason. Fact of the matter is that if guns are to be kept easily accessible to the entire public, then crazies can and will get a hold of them. Or you have Australia where antique WWI era rifles and colonial era muskets are crushed, while handguns are sold on the street by criminal elements. Near where they sell pills and powders, funnily enough. Weapon control is implemented badly, or not at all.

Wow, I played Earth 2025 way back in like 98-99. So I'd like to add to the people bringing up the possibility of the usual suspects linking his motives to video games: Earth Empires is NOT a video game

Farmville is more of a video game, as it at least has a graphical interface. It's purely a text base browser game where you get a set amount of turns each day to perform a variety of actions, then wait until the next day for more turns. You hope you can improve and grow your country and eventually need to attack other players countries to do so, but anyone can also attack you at anytime to knock you down a peg. And attacks come down to basically saying I send 5000 soldiers 1200 jets and 500 tanks to attack player 102254, hit confirm, then wait for a success/failure message. The complexity doesn't get much higher than that.

He is obviously mentally unstable first and foremost. Don't worry about the games, guys. Nobody could think that the games made him do it unless they were a complete idiot.

I wonder if/when they convict him if he is going to jail or to a 24/7 psych hold for the rest of his life? I hope he doesn't get off scott-free because of his insanity. What he did was just awful.
Naw. The Republicans are already touting him as a hero...They'll whip him up a defense fund and then he'll get a seat at the Faux Noise table beside Sarah Payme.

Dude, have you every watched Olbermann, Chris Matthews, or any of the other lib commentators on MSNBC? Their invective is as much as, if not more, full of bile and vitriol.

That said, it's already been reported that he wasn't poltical, didn't watch the news, and didn't listen to radio. Like other crazy homicidal maniacs, he was (brace yourself) a crazy homicidal maniac.

why does everyone keep calling him "accused"? there were only, what? 5000 eyewitnesses? i'm sorry, but "innocent until proven guilty" only goes so far. he isn't "accused" he f***ing did it! whether or not he was totally in control of his actions is still to be determined in a court of law, but no one can deny he did it.

I coulda told these people that this guy was disturbed even before it was discovered that he posted disturbing things on forums... After all, he did shoot 20 people, and 6 of them died. I'm still waiting on the whole "guns kill people, we must ban them and shit", to which i will respond "If guns kill people, then spoons made Rosie O'donnell fat and pencils misspell words".
Ironically here in Canada one of our party leaders is saying Canada needs even tougher gun control because of what happened. Personally I don't see how the two are related as we have very different gun regulations. Oh Canada (shakes head).

I wish the best for the victims and their family though in this hard time.

... What? Yeah, "Faux" News this this guy is as terrible as the rest of us. Please, for all of our sakes, don't talk about what you don't know the facts on. Please. Your ignorance makes me cringe.
