Hey, I got the original ArmAs in the Humble Bundle but I pretty much just bought it for ArmA III since I already have all of Arma II. My question though is, since the release of ArmA II and III, is there really any point to playing any of these original two games at all anymore? The only thing I could see is for legacy compatibility so you can play the old mods that aren't available in the newer versions.

EDIT: Removed Tactics because apparently it's a huge piece of shit.

tactics isnt exactly a good game bit its not a piece of shit its playable and forgettable

the original game has got a metric shit ton of mods available for it and so does Armed assault.

a side note.. there is a quirk in the ARMA modding community. they call mods "addons" and mods tend to refer to total conversion/expansion level mods. ive actually see fights errupt when people call them by the "wrong" name

*edit* i checked and yes i still have 5 DVD's full of mods from the original game

Yeah, I was seriously eyeing that mod collection. But are there really any mods worth getting the original ArmA for alone though?

Depends on if you like SP. I think I'm one of the 2% who play Arma for SP content.
Arma: Gold is much less buggy than Arma 2 in that regard, with better mission structure.

i havent looked at the mods for arma for years but you can be pretty sure there are mods for anything pretty much

for the original game for instance my civil war soldier was fighting aliens who were abducting people.. by the end of the mission i was zooming around the battle field in a hover tank replaying a war of the worlds 1865 edition :D

another i remember was simulating the normandy parachute drops during ww2 where my british company had to take a village, hold off an armoured assault then take a bridge further on.

you can also get mods that convert the original campaigns to use community mods

sure alot of mods have damage and HP levels that dont play well together but they are still alot of fun and as someone else mentioned even though most people play it for single player there is still a thriving single player community
