Artist Creates Epic Mural for Epic Mickey

Disney Epic Mickey gets some stunning (and huge) fan art from a talented urban artist in downtown Los Angeles.

There's been a lot of buzz surrounding David Garibaldi was apparently commissioned to create a huge mural in downtown Los Angeles.

As you can see from the video, the final product is certainly impressive, especially since it was created in only a few short hours. For Garibaldi, however, this kind of work isn't really that far out of his normal painting environment.

Garibaldi is known for his urban paintings, many of which have been adapted into products like iPhone cases, a book, <a href=http://www.art.com/gallery/id--a16362/david-garibaldi-posters.htm?ui=4FBE67704D8A4AB1928B0BFEABC09BDD>posters, and <a href=http://www.metroparkusa.com/fashion/men>clothing. However, he gained a lot of his fame as an artist when he began doing what's known as "performance painting" (creating portraits and the like while being inspired by the music surrounding him) at urban jazz clubs and concerts.

Nice, very good actually.

To everyone that thinks spraying your name on a wall is "cool", do this next time, then I might accept you spraying on the wall.

Also, thought I was wrong for a moment, said that Epic Mickey wasn't out yet, I saw Epic Mickey in the stores last week, checked wiki, seems Europe got the release earlier. Didn't know that =)

That's quite an impressive work of art, though i do wonder how it's possible to make quality stuff and dance/stroll/jump around at the same time.
But still, it was amazing how he was able to do something like that.

How does being commissioned qualify as fan art?

Other than that pretty coolish.

I know I'd be pissed if he got paint on my car though.

The close ups showed the pencil lines which kind of spoilt the idea of its spontaneity for me a bit.

I sound a bit too negative here, I did like it but I'm a glass half empty kind of guy.

What I wouldn't give for that amount of raw talent...
You have that raw talent somewhere, everyone does. You just haven't discovered it yet.

This is viral marketing and not fan art.

I agree completely.
Why can't it be both? I do freelance illustration and often find myself working on stuff that I really enjoy and submit to fan art groups afterwards.

Wow, that this guy's indredibly passionate about his work (and very good at it too).

Makes it all the worse that Epic Mickey isn't cross-platform (dare I believe the rumours?).
