Artist Mixes Comic Book, Movie and Cartoon Icons In Brilliant Mash-Ups

Marvel colorist Marco D'Alfonso spends his free time creating awesome mash-ups with beloved characters from comics, movies and television.

While I'm sure that somewhere out there is a person who only likes and enjoys one solitary thing, most of us are defined by an amalgamation of tastes running a wide gamut of mediums and properties. Take Marco D'Alfonso. Born in the 1980s, his childhood experiences helped him grow into someone with a love of pop culture spanning the wide realms of video games. Now a professional illustrator, D'Alfonso uses his skills and talent to pay tribute to his favorite properties with brilliant mash-ups.

What exactly does he mash together, you ask? That's where things get fun. You see, rather than just sticking popular characters together in amusing situations, D'Alfonso often goes the extra mile and models his art pieces after specific famous scenes, movie art and comic covers. In 2012 for instance, he released an X-Men art piece parodying the famous asked about the inspiration for his mash-ups, D'Alfonso simply described them as "the things I daydream of when doing my actual work." If only the rest of us could have such productive daydreams.

What I personally find most impressive about D'Alfonso's work is just how closely he's able to emulate the styles of the artwork his mash-ups imitate. I also love how, when necessary, he integrates details of faux wear and tear to help complete the illusion that you're staring at a piece of art that actually originated decades ago. If you're interested in seeing more of D'Alfonso's mash-ups you can check out his official website. You might also try reading some of <a href=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/tag/view/marvel>Marvel's comics as a few of them might have used him <a href=http://marvel.wikia.com/Category:Marco_D%27Alfonso/Colourist>as a colorist.

The Soundwave cover is my favourite but the Ironb Man Care Bear is the funniest images of them all!

Ooh, I love this guy's work! The odd mix-and match style combined with great art really sells it!

Damn, this makes for a pretty good nerd cred test. I didn't even get what some of the covers were mashups of, like the one with the aged X-Men or the Supergirl one. I think the best was probably the Adventure Time/Hulk mashup cover.

Very nice work. I would totally pay to see that Stitch/Harley Quinn crossover, not that it could ever happen, even if they belonged to the same company.

I think the Charlie Brown/Spider-Man one should say "...Comes Good Grief", though.

Ha... The Killing Wakka...

Other than that, I laughed harder that I thought I would after seeing The Walking Dead Pool...

I have no idea who the aged X-Men are, but Supergirl? That one's definitely not in Kansas anymore. Wizard of Oz. I found it funny that Supes became Strawman, the one without a brain. I don't know who Lion and Tinman are, though.

OT: I found most of them quite funny. Jake vs Hulk and The Walking Deadpool are my favorites.

Hehe. Iron Mandalorian. Good stuff.
Also really liked the Aged X-Men, if only for Old Gambit holding a cane and bus pass.

I want Harley and Stitch to be a real comic, and I really really want Jubilee to become a vampire. I know these are jokes, but they'd be so awesome if they were real.

I... don't recognise what number 14 is supposed to be, but it looks inappropriate somehow. ._.
