I don't care, I leave no evidence :)

But otherwise I don't trust my brother. I leave him with the older computer when I moved out for a while and I come back and it barely starts up >_>

I wouldn't care if my wife uses it, she does all the time anyways. My son uses it to watch cartoons I've downloaded for him sometimes (he is three and knows how to do it, kind of scary). My mom isn't allowed to because she would have no idea on how to use it. I don't have anything that I don't want any of them to see though.

1) Yes, we talk about everything anyway so they know the weird crap that's hidden in some folders.
2) No thank you.
3) Oh hell no.
4) Let me just password protect a few things....

I am uncomfortable with it, I can deal with my girlfriend using it, but my family members not s much.

My brother is 100% fine with people using his computer and I just don't understand it. I feel like they're... dunno can't explain it, but I feel violated.

I don't have anything to hide, and if I did I wouldn't be hiding it from those people but others.

lemme delete my history, and I would let:

My Mom
My brothers
My theoretical girlfriend (since I'm single right now)

My friends have a tendency to not respect people's desire to not have certain programs on their computer. So, in order to not have 3 torrent programs, limewire (or another program like it), and other programs that I don't like.

If I don't get to delete my history, than NO ONE TOUCHES MY STUFF!

Everybody except parents. Don't mind friends, GF, or nonexistant siblings from knowing the few things on ehere.

1) Probably not. I don't hang out with gamers, so it's been ridiculously easy to keep my online and real lives separate. I'd prefer to keep it that way.
2) Well I would but they seem to not exist.
3) My sister is ten years older than me and about as much of a nerd as I am. (Bit more "hip" though.) If she trawled through my browsing history, at worst she might question my taste in sketch comedy and ask why the hell I spend so much time researching astronomy.
4) Very no, see #1.

1) I could trust them. They know I have porn and am into some weird stuff, I know they have porn and are into some weird stuff, and we all know that none of us care. They could probably find it if they really looked.
2) Don't have one
3) Yeah. My lil' bro probably wouldn't dig around for stuff that much, and I doubt he would stumble upon something bad by accident.
4) Yeah. They can hardly use a computer as is. My mom only kind of knows what she's doing.

I really don't mind who uses my computer. If they find my porn, 99% chance it's because they were looking for it. If they have a problem with what they see, it's really their fault.

My brother seemingly installs Virus apps on purpose.
My cousin seems to be the same way. I don't think their computer has been virus free in over 10 years. In fact, it may have died.

Yes to all, if only because if they somehow break it it'd give me an excuse to build my own.

Not in the sense that they might damage or corrupt it, but is there anything you don't mind / want them seeing? Lets just say they used it one day without your permission, would you get hot ans sweaty and chuck them off or relax and say go ahead?
1. Yep, as long as they had an IQ over 50
2. Yep.
3. sure... right after I teach my brother that free game building softwere online is full of viruses, and those viruses, not WoW or Guild Wars, is the reason the family PC is slower than a turtle with narcolepsy.
4. yeah.

My friends: They often do use my computer for gaming, so there's nothing particularly bad about that. I suppose they might post some stuff on my account here, but I could just get that modded away.
GF: Nope
Siblings: Nope
Parents: My Dad would possibly shout at me for being on the Escapist at 4 in the morning...

Yeah I think that is pretty much the point. If you have something worth hiding, its not that difficult to prevent others from accessing it. Honestly the real threat isnt the objectionable material anywhere near as much as the damage that can be done by people who simply really dont need to even bother turning a computer on.

I know its not in concurrence with the OP thread, but its seriously the greater threat. So I would gladly hold 100 gb of porn and anarchist cookbok type documents with absolutely no qualms to let friends, family, GF to use the box.

The rule is, feel free to check my history, but it's not my fault if you find something you didn't want to

1) Sure I let them use it all the time anyway.Quite frankly they are the ones who would want to hid something.
2) Don't have one
3)Besides the fact that she could never figure out my incredibly easy log on password. She knows enough that little would surprise her.
4) Probably not.

I take measures to prevent such possibilities however. Hide my bookmark bar, clear history, store everything sensitive externally, other files are hidden in a maze of folders. Admittedly not much of a defense against someone that knows what they are doing, but lucky for me my family doesn't.

Side note to an earlier comment my laptop has finger-print and facial recognition security built into it, and it is by no means a good laptop.

heh, this reminds me of one time back in high school when a couple of my friends went through the browsing history of this girl who gets perfect grades (she was in the bathroom and left her laptop open).

They went through five days of browsing history, and every single site was related to research or news or email. I'll never understand what makes people like that tick...

Personally, I don't mind people on my computer, as long as they don't check my browsing history. Though, most of that is fine too nowadays. Everything else that needs to stay away from curious eyes is already hidden.
