Funny enough I always imagined Assassin Creed III being set in the present day playing as Desmond for some reason being that it was the last in a trilogy. Probably couldn't work though.
I was thinking the exact thing, than I realized he'd probably get gunned down, unless he goes Batman Arkhym Asylum on them.
I thought the same, I always imagined Desmond and Lucy breaking out to take down the leader of the Animus Organisation because of the end of AC1 when Des could use assassin vision

There's so much potential here for interesting settings that aren't WW2. What about, say, Elizabethan England, the American and French Revolutions, or the Industrial Revolution - to name a few? How about the Civil War? It would be disappointing to fall back on something so run-of-the-mill, no?
The Elizabethan Time would certainly fit with the rest of the series, and it would be unique and exciting. I can't even think of a game that has adressed that time, and who's better suited than Ubisoft to portray that kind of area of time? The attire, the environments, the premise of how well an AC-syle game would fit with a period of history where backstabbery and subterfuge are as much a part of the daily threat is as common as overpriced sneakers today? Right around the times with a renewed interest in science and gadgets, giving the dev team a little leeway for creativity in their weapons?

Sounds pretty freaking awesome to me.

AssCreed? Hurr hurr hurr...

Ahem. I'm in full support of a female protagonist. But 'twould be good if they could lay off the sexy single stereotype (with a nice ass, yes) for a while. Be different. Give her a waist and hips and kids and a husband back home to go with her hidden weapons. Anyway...*rant for the day*

As for time periods, WWII (in the traditional sense, what we're all thinking of) is NOT the way to go. As if they shouldn't already see that. If they simply must do something around that time, pick the freakin' neglected Spanish Civil War. Other aforementioned alternatives include the French Revolution, Victorian England (hats and cane-swords!), the English Civil War, or even the Cold War. Maybe.

I think WWII could work, if you just took a different angle. Take us completely away from the central idea of the war. Do it in Switzerland. You are the daughter of a sub leader of the assassins. Your father used Switzerland's refugee during WW1 to move his group of assassin's to Switzerland. Your character is born and raised during the time of relative peace between the wars. She is just preparing to become a full assassin as the main part of WWII takes off. Your father uses you to kill certain people who are breaking the supposed neutrality and to destroy operations that are aiding the axis as your tests.

A turning point could be when you start finding out that the operations you are doing are hurting Switzerland's neutrality more than helping it and setting it up for a German invasion. Then your character can question her father's motives and what to do.

I think using that would work and not have the same overused taste that most WWII games have.

Another idea that I really like is prohibition area Chicago with Al Capone and the mob wars.

If the next character was a woman that would be awesome. If the game was set in WW2, that wouldn't be awesome.

How about WW1 instead?

O.T

Why not set it during the Anglo-Spannish war?
working for different sides, stowing away aboard one of the armada ships.

Could work

I think Assassin's Creed III could work in World War II, as long as it had nothing to do with the actual frontline battle-y stuff.

Something along these lines could work. Maybe less specifically, someone working for a neutral country, or someone working both sides of the war to further their own goals.
Or, in keeping with the continuing story, they could say that the Nazi Party was an offshoot of the main Templar group. At first, the main group ignored them, but eventually realized that if they goaded the offshoot into starting a war, it would be a perfect cover for their main evil plot (whatever that may be). Your character could be an Assassin trying to find out the truth about the Nazis and what the goals of the Templars really are.

A female protagonist is fine with me as long as she has well sized breats.I.E fairly small onse.

What was i talking about again?.Oh yeah WWII.

A WWII setting would be just horrible.IT can i no way work with a game that is set mostly about sneaking around and stabbing people.

I'd rather see it set in the first world war, and assassin sneaking through the trenches and is the first through nomansland still not completely relying on guns the assassin would head or back every mission

i think if handled correctly it would be pretty epic, just a thought of course

a female Altiar... ok, lets pretend that the first game was a good game and promised everything it delivered...

Having a female character as the protagonist and THEN choosing a setting for her is NOT how a good developer works. You seem to want this character simply to slap an arse and a pair of breasts onto your game because with all that climbing you're gonna see a lot of the former, secondly, in WWII unless you were in the middle of the battlefield there will be nothing to climb on, which was the main premise of playing the first game, Altiars arch nemesis isn't the Templar, it's building regulations. A place with smooth brick walls (i.e. any where in Europe after the Victorian era) is going to make the climbing mechanic a *****.

You know what I'd do EA montreal, I'd have filled AC1 with a series of references to an event that the player wouldn't know, then I would make the game go BACK in time to show said events (this would be AC2) and finally I wouldn't just throw away an already developed (sort of) character like Altiar, I'd use HIM in the third game, mainly because of the appeal of the crusades but also the fact that there weren't GUNS.

I was about to rant on and on about the reason most of these time periods are never used in games is because they would all be so incredibly boring. Then I realized how well a game like assassins creed can make a boring time period fun. which means a cold war game could be done and done well, which would be entirely bad-ass.

So I get to butcher the cast of "Good night mr Tom?"

ABOUT. FUCKING. TIME.

Also people seem to be forgetting that disguises and crowds were a significant part of the original game.
